Ordered a SYNC 4 APIM, lets see what happens once it arrives!

You mean this?
Sync 4 APIM Database - CyanLabs

Yes sir. I wanted to wait until I was at a computer with multiple monitors before I dug into it. Thanks, Iā€™ll give that a shot.

Been reading through this forum and saving all the helpful wiring diagrams and useful information that will hopefully help me with my future endeavor.
I currently drive a very late model 2020 Ford Edge ST (11/26/2020), and I am looking into swapping the current SYNC 3 - 8" horizontal screen to the SYNC 4A 12" vertical tablet style. Iā€™ve been speaking to a fellow in Ukraine whoā€™s done the swap and apparently sells a kit but Iā€™m not ready to bite the bullet on something that may not fully work. From what heā€™s shown me, he pulled the entire dash and added everything in like it wouldā€™ve been wired from the Factory.

From reading this thread, I understand youā€™ll loose WiFi updates, have no access to OTA updates, and have no use of the current built-in navigation such as direct routing. Those issues donā€™t really bother me much, I have always used Android Auto / Apple Carplay. I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever used the SYNC 3 navigation to be honest. With that being said, if I were to obtain the SYNC 4A screen, APIM, and the associated brackets and possibly updated ACM, would it work for the most part? I know the wiring connectors slightly changed on the new SYNC 4A for the HVAC controls, but would I be able to just plug in the APIM and hopefully test that before de-pinning and re-pinning the HVAC connectors? I did purchase a manual for 2020-2021 model Edgeā€™s, but the data is all for a 2020 Edge unfortunately. Any insight and or helpful information would be greatly appreciated!

Iā€™ve got a problem with my Sync 4. I terminated pins 53 and 54, but the car wonā€™t start after installation. Is there anything I need to patch?

You only need to pull them out of the connector, do not connect them to anything, Just wrap them individually with electrical tape or shrink wrap tubing.

Old post 2 questions
1 can U please share details what did U change in forscan to get preset working?
2 how can I get a full screen back up camera show up instead of 360 view with split screen?

Ok so I was told that someone over here sorted out the APIM and screen retrofit from Sync3 to Sync4 applied on the F150 such that it now works on a 20-24 Ford Explorer. They apparently took a Sync4 APIM, coded it for the VIN of the Explorer, and then used a new asbuilt. Also paired this with a 13.2" horizontal screen, possibly from the Expedition.

Is any of this true? Anyone read anything sbout that here and can connect me with the players who sorted this?

If someone DID figure this out, lets get the info to the community at large. We, like the F150 owners suffer from a sh1tty Sync 3 implementation and the upgrade would be a big deal if we can get it to work.

And dont send me to fordsync4.com. i hear its a scam.

Thank you all for any guidance!

There is so much great info in this thread. I have some questions, hoping for clarity.

2022 Ford Maverick XLT, non sync.

I want to upgrade to Sync 4 and a 12 inch screen with an APIM install and ACM. Ive seen alot of messages on here about Ford Pass issues with Sync 3 to Sync 4 installs. And people have to put in the original Sync 3 to activate Ford Pass. On a truck like mine that doesnt already have an APIM, is the TCU just communicating with my ACM? Will I have to keep my old ACM on hand to avoid the ford pass issues?

Also, is there anything I need to be aware with APIM purchases regarding year/Part#. I already know I need a sync 4 with the 6 pin connector for a 12 inch screen.

TCU has nothing to do with the ACM. The TCU communicates on HS4 for that year between the GWM and APIM.

In more recent years they moved the TCU over to the Ethernet line off the GWM-A

There is some Sync 4 conversions on Mavericks from Sync 3, but I have not seen any from a non-Sync vehicle. There would be a lot involved to do this, such as replacing modules and firmware just to support the swap. It would likely not be worth the effort. And yes, Ford Pass would not work properly if at all.
