Hello, I searched the forums and other forums as well and getting mixed information on if it will work or not. I have a 2017 f150 Raptor with Sync 3.4 update from here. I had a screen imperfection on the stock 8" already on when I bought the truck. I’m trying to replace it with a newer 21-23 8.4" screen that I received free for a friend of mine.
As of now I get nothing out of the new 8.4" screen, when I swap it back for the original everything is fine so I know the spin is still good. Looking for a definitive answer on if this will work or not. From what I’ve read the necessary drivers should be there for the Sync 4 screen since I’m updated to sync 3.4. But also reading other post that the drivers might be missing from my pre 2020 apim. Is there a way to load the new drivers on my old apim. Or am I simply missing something I can do in forscan to make this work. Thanks in advance.
Apim info is.

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
No error message.
The screen will work as long as you are on Sync 3.4 with the proper hardware. However, if you reformat the APIM to install NA maps, the screen will go black. It’s not broke, just that the reformat process does not support the new screens. You could just save the old screen and use it if you refromat then replace it with the new screen when done.
By the way…, not all of the new screens are compatible. The issue is you are using an H series APIM, which will not drive the new screen, despite being on Sync 3.4. You would need a late 2018 J series or K series APIM at least for this to work.
Awesome, thanks for the straite forward answer! If I do end up getting a 2018 J series or K series APIM will it have the needed software and drivers to run the 12” screen also. Obviously not including the wiring differences to power the 12”?
I dont belive it can run a 12”. Those are for Sync 4 and have a slightly different plug and cable. 4 pin vs. 6 pin. After market could be a different story if there are any but I would guess the resolution would look bad.
A 10” should run fine. Please correct me if I am wrong F150Chief.
