Reverse Camera Dark and Fuzzy After Sync 1 to Sync 3 Upgrade

2016 F150 XLT. I upgraded the 4" sync 1 to 8" sync 3. Everything works fine accept the reverse camera. It is very dark and fuzzy. If you look very closely you can see objects behind you but it’s pretty much unusable. Everything else works fine after the upgrade. I have tried changing settings in the APIM related to the reverse camera but with no success. I don’t think it’s the camera itself because it worked with sync 1. Help wanted!

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: MY20

Old SYNC Version: 1.1

New SYNC Version: 3.4

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
Sometimes I get a message that says “Camera not available, please see dealer”. Bu it’s very spuratic.

Update Method: CyanLabs Manual Method

Sometimes I get a “camera not available” message that I have to hit ok on to clear or a blue screen but that’s sporadic. Most of the time when I shift to reverse it’s just dark and fuzzy.

This is a common issue with the Sync 1 to 3 upgrades, usually due to the wiring adapter kit used for the upgrade. Your camera is likely fine, but the signal is low. If the signal is low enough it will trigger the messages.

This could also be an asbuilt coding issue for the camera. Could you post your APIM asbuilt here…

I’ll get my APIM as built posted but in the mean time do you have a wiring adapter you recommend?

Maybe @bill32399 or @jmbach knows about the wiring kit for this…

What wiring harness did you use and where did you get it.

Sorry I don’t buy wire harnesses. I have always made my own.

A lot of reviews state the item needed to be re-pinned and had bad video. I believe that the camera inputs to the Sync 1 unit can be moved to the proper pins for Sync 3, without the need to use that.

@jmbach ?

I agree with F150Chief that you should be able to wire the camera directly to the APIM connector skipping that adapter. What are the other parts of your wiring harness.

Here’s the main harness I used. 4" To 8" PNP Conversion Power Harness W/USB Wire For Ford F150 SYNC1 to SYNC 3 | eBay

I got it fixed! Turned out after trying so many different things it was just a bad connection with the camera adapter harness :expressionless_face:. Thanks for the feedback on this.
