SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 upgrade on 2018 PIU

When you get time can you post your APIM, ACM, and HVAC module asbuilts…curious to know what they did.

I’m not sure if you can read these files like that but if not let me know and I can take pictures for ya

These are preferable, actually. Thanks.

Cool, let me know what you find. I’m curious myself haha

There are a few errors in the coding for the ACM and APIM. I will go thru these tomorrow. In short, the rear camera display may not work, test that. Other things like do you still have a CD player interface, or SiriusXM button.

What Sync version is on the APIM? Now that you can, run the Interrogator Utility in the Syn3 Updater and post the XML file here. I noticed the asbuilt only goes to 7D0-07-xx.

Well look at that. I got out of helping. LOL

Backup camera works, not sure about the cd player but I have a Sirius XM button. Sync version 3.4 and maps version 2 23. I’ll figure out how to get the XML file

Use the Syn3 Updater, it’s in the tools menu.

Just drop the file here in your response.

When I click “view detailed asbuilt” it gives me that invalid file page. Should I just try the “copy asbuilt” instead? Everything went smoothly until step 3

You ran the Interrogator Utility in the vehicle, right? There will be an xml file on the USB from that. Drag and drop it here.

Items in the APIM that need to be changed:
7D0G1G20289000490F9
needs to be changed to…
7D0G1G20289000492xx
Nav Repeater is turned off; this turns it on.
7D0G4G1000001000BE8
needs to be changed to…
7D0G4G1010001000BE9
CD player/MP3 playback.

This is the modified abt file if you just want to load it this way. FORScan will give you an alert that the parity bits are improper and ask if you want to correct them, say YES.

HVAC is fine.

Dude you are awesome. I needed my thumb drive to save stuff and move it onto my PC but when I’m done I will run the interrogator again. When I looked at the drive right before I formatted it back there was only a compressed file and an HTML. I’ll try again though after I make these changes. Many thanks!

I loaded those 2 files but the navigation on the instrument panel still isn’t working. I enabled it in the IPC but there’s still no option to turn it on in the settings, unless maybe there’s a setting on the SYNC itself I need to turn on. I found this Info but it’s from 2020 and I couldn’t find the engineer setting in FORScan that he talked about.

We can probably make it work. Post your IPC asbuilt and the part number of the IPC also.

I’m noticing the screen gets really hot. Is that normal? It’s in a 90 degree garage and I’m messing around in the settings getting everything set how I want it, but it seems excessively hot to the touch after 15-20 minutes. I have the big wiring harness tucked behind the APIM, could that be causing it to overheat? It hasn’t shut down on me or anything yet but I’m probably gonna take apart the dash tomorrow to see if everything behind it looks okay.

They do get pretty hot. In my 2020 Fusion I could hear a fan behind it that Ford put in.

Cool I’m glad you said something, I was getting worried. I’m going for a 3 hour road trip soon so I guess that will be the ultimate test to see if it overheats. I sure hope not

Update: just drove around for about 30 minutes with the auto A/C on and everything works great! The screen was just a little warm but nothing concerning like it was in the hot garage. I’m freaking stoked, y’all are the best for helping me out. Now I just need to figure out this heads up navigation and then I’m done!

Much appreciated. Thank you.

I’ll look at your asbuilts again today and see if there is something for the Nav in the IPC. Glad to here it all works and you’re happy with it.
