Believe it or not, this APIM is legit. It is one of the first production runs ever made for Sync 3 in 2015 for the 2016 Focus model year. The screen is also correct. Unfortunately, this model and the -CFC variant are prone to failure, and can experience less than desirable affects when reformatted. The sticker is not straight and the unit looks quite new for it’s age, but it could have been removed and stored before being sold, or whatever.
The APIM’s shown on the Ecoboost.net pic should NOT be used to upgrade to Sync 3.2+ (MY18.5) as they are generally the same as this one, and will experience the same issues. They are fine for direct replacements for Sync 3.0.
This obviously replaced a Sync 2 unit that was original to the vehicle. The Sync 2 asbuilt is not directly transferable to Sync 3, despite what some will tell you. If you did that there will be issues with features, etc., but the asbuilt errors will not cause this issue.
In short, the unit may not recoverable using reformat or software modifications thru the USB ports. What happens when the unit boots?

Some things to try:
- Remove power from the unit for 15 minutes, then try the reformat process again.
- If you can see the unit with FORScan, what are the Strategy and Calibration files? There is a known issue with some of the early Strategy files and eMMC addressing. This can be corrected thru FORScan with a paid license for firmware programming using a USB OBD adapter approved for this use.
- Replace the unit.
