SYNC 3 NO GPS ISSUE *HELP NEEDED* 2019 FORD RANGER

Hello everyone
This is my first post and I hope you can help me.

My brother recently bought a 2019 Ford Ranger which had v3.4 21194 Maps F8, it showed NO GPS and no directional movement on the map, what we’ve done to try and fix it is a bit of a saga so I’ll bullet point:

3.4.21194 via WIFI from the vehicle
3.4.21194 via USB from Ford site
3.4.21194 via USB (Cyanlabs)
3.4.22110 via WIFI from Ford (it did this on it’s own by the Auto Update) it also updated to F11 maps
3.4.22251 via USB (Cyanlabs) latest version, this now shows on his online Ford account, none of the others did / do
3.4.19101 via USB (Cyanlabs)
3.4.19200 via USB (Cyanlabs)
3.4.22251 via USB (Cyanlabs)

NB: At no point did we try to update the Maps version.
Regular master resets have been done along the way, you will note that out of desperation, I even hopped back and forth to try earlier versions but the NO GPS remains.

The supplier is in contact with him regarding a resolution but from what I can gather on here, I’ve a better chance of fixing this (with your help) than Ford have, I suppose I just want to make sure this is a software issue before giving it to Ford to check the hardware.

Please help, I’m at the end of my tether, I’m not that technical but have some understanding and I can follow instructions :blush:

Paul

Do you have any of the diagnostic tools folks recommend on this board? (Forscan, UCDS, etc)

GPS Hardware Test: The Compass/Navigation is Inoperative or Does Not Operate Correctly. (No GPS) - Ford / Guides - CyanLabs Official Community

I’m afraid not no :frowning:

Thank you for this but I have no idea how to proceed in diagnosing.
Is it common for the GPS aerial to fail?

There are some limited diagnostics you can get to on the radio. Does the Ranger have a CD player?

It does yes! Can you please advise further

You’ll want to hold down the Seek Next and Eject buttons for five to ten seconds, this should pop up a speaker test (warning can be LOUD depending on car). Hit End Test, then go to APIM Diagnostics. There should be something in there (not in my car at the moment) relating to Location. Under there does it show anything? Does it say No GPS Fix?

Further down that screen, you should see signal diagnostics. Even if it says No GPS Fix, if you go in there do you see any signal being received?

Hello again
Yes, it says No GPS Fix, there wasn’t a Signal Diagnostics option so I took pics of what looked relevant, I have others if needed.
I can’t thank you enough for this!

Hmm… and you haven’t had the thing apart so it couldn’t be a user caused loose connector. It’s an EU model, so I can’t have you see if satellite radio works

Only other thing I can think of without diagnostic tools would be to take the negative battery terminal off, leave the lights on for about 10 minutes to drain any residual power from the system, turn the lights off and reconnect the battery cable. Drive it (or leave it sitting running) for about 15 minutes after doing it somewhere there’s no trees or other obstructions and check the diagnostics again.

Beyond that it’s worth waiting to see if anyone more familiar with EU models, or the “reformat mode” in SynUpdater is around (don’t do this yet if you haven’t already, there are certain models this will break the unit that runs Sync)

You have a bad antenna or connection somewhere. If you could do the diagnostic I posted, you will find it. If you cannot do this yourself you will need to find someone who can help you. There is nothing in Sync that will help here, as the navigation system is a separate stand alone system only interfaced to Sync.
