Sync 3 upgrade 2014 Explorer Limited

Upgrad d to Sync 3 from sync 2 using an
eBay package. Everything works however vehicle developed a parasitic draw. I’ve seen
Posts where people claim the
As-built info may be the issue. I have Forscan and use it extensively for diagnostics but not sure what or if I should change any AIPM codes. Any help would be appreciated.

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Unknown

Install Type: Retrofit

Old SYNC Version: 3.4

New SYNC Version: 3.4

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
No errors I assume seller updated through Ford. Unsure to be homest

Update Method: Official Ford

Post you APIM AB here.

Hopefully this works

Where did you get this asbuilt? was it the asbuilt already on the new APIM?
Did you change the ACM?

What’s the model number on this APIM?

This came from the seller like this with vin matched to the explorer. Supposed to be plug and play and everything does work , just trying to determine if it is the source of the parasitic drain. I have read ( who knows if it’s true) that the screen may not fully shut down if one of the codes is incorrect ACM?

I am not certain, Let me see if I can locate it. Does this offer any additional help? IMG_4031

This is correct, but is only one of several causes. This is the Illumination Gateway setting at 7D0-07-01. Since you have a 2014 Explorer, this is CHEA 1.2 electrical architecture, compared to later models (2016+) which use CGEA 1.3. These are not 100% compatible architechtures, so some settings need to be compensated in the APIM.

I’ll look thru your asbuilt and see if there is anything that is obvious…

The model number of the APIM is helpful. You can get the model number from the settings menu on the APIM. It will be in the APIM information.

You can access a “secret” menu on the SYNC 3. To do that, press the right arrow button on the steering wheel and the right arrow button (Scan button) on the infotainment panel at the same time and hold them for five seconds while the radio is on and set to FM or AM. This will initiate a speaker test followed by the hidden menu. You can cancel the speaker test.

I just worry with a calibration like that you have a 2020+ APIM.

Man that is all greek to me! I appreciate the help, if I know which line in the as-built to address and what to write I can handle inputting and writing it.

Went through the secret menu, hopefully this info helps. Please excuse my ignorance on electrical architecture levels etc, I’m not at all familiar with this kind of stuff and appreciate all the help.

It is a MY20+ APIM, 5U5T-14G371-CKC.
Your APIM asbuilt is a mix of an old Sync 2 and Sync 3, but not taken from an Explorer model, not very accurate. You should find a VIN for a 2016 or 2017 Explorer that is similarly equipeed to yours and get the asbuilt. You will need to adjust the asbuilt for CGEA 1.2. If this APIM was coded for your vehicle they didn’t do a good job…

Thank you. Does that mean it cannot be programmed for the 2014? Again, the electronic architecture is way above my pay grade. I appreciate your help and if I’m screwed and can’t make this work I still have the original equipment I can change back to until I find what I will need to do it right.

What else did you change on the vehicle? The APIM is coded for a newer ACM radio.

This is actually my sons car and we changed out everything.

Don’t use a 2016 Explorer for APIM AB as it was still on SYNC 2. Use a 2017 as it was SYNC 3.

Thank you for the advise I will give this a try!

If it comes down to it I will post my AB for my 2015 running Sync 3.

That would be awesome if you could do that. I’ve found a vin for a 2017 went to Ford site to download as- built, did that but cannot open the file (. ab)

Haven’t found a reader for that type file yet.

I will grab it tonight. The one thing you have to remember is I have heavily modified my 2015. I have upgraded to 2016 & 2017+ hardware in many areas starting with the antenna and a lot of wiring. The basic AB is the same for the most part but there will be a few differences.
