Sync3 v2.0 to Sync3 v3.2 issues. Lost some features

I did a Cyanlabs update to my Sync3. I did a verification of the head unit first before updating as per Cyanlabs options. The update went fine but now I have no voices on my Navigation including Waze and Google maps weirdly, and I have lost my Park Assist Screen, I still get the chimes so i presume its still functioning but with no screen options.

I know I cant do a roll back to the original version but is there any other version I can goto to ty and get my features back? For Example: Version 3.4 back to what is available in Syn3 Updater which is 3.3 (installation downgrade) or am i potentially opening a can of worms and should walk away now. lol

Can Ford put the original back on? If this is an option then this would be my preferred method of solving this as I would put my missing features above the need for UI enhancements.

Is the other option of Forscan likely to be successful? I dont want to make things worse. I find the instructions for the Forscan abit above my paygrade.

I can find some instructions but these seem to be USA orientated and delve into activating sensors etc whereas I just don’t have the screen options when the button is pressed.

I’m going to assume you had factory NAV on Sync 3.x.x and this wasn’t a conversion from MFT or a 4" to 8"…
In ForScan (you’ll need the extended license) go to the APIM module configuration AsBuilt, select download so that it pulls the original factory AsBuilt and save that to the APIM.
Once the service procedure completes do a Master Reset and test from there.

Yes factory Nav. Thanks.ill start the ball rolling with getting the Forscan stuff setup. i think the no voice in Navigation is to do with a volume issue rather than a missing voice files issue.

Also. What happens when the official Sync3 download file from the ford website is put onto a USB. Does that do an update? I see one on their support website for my vehicle via the vin number. Thanks.

Missing voice file is not going to cause Waze or Google maps problem, a screwed up APIM config can cause all kinds of strangeness. Are you running your factory AB, a tweaked config or one from another car?

Can I use a Ford official:
This depends on what version of Sync3 you vehicle came with from the factory.
IF you were on 1.0-3.0.x Ford’s site is going to offer you 3.0.x as that’s the highest version Ford supports on your car, it’s going to fail if you try to install it when you have Sync 3.4.x loaded.
IF your car came with 1-3.0.x and you try to use a Ford official 3.4.x, the installation will fail with an “Unsupported” notice, one of the files in Ford’s package compares the VIN to what you’re trying to install and since you didn’t come with 3.4.x. it fails.

With regard to downgrading you can use the Updater to downgrade you to 3.0.x (I’d select the highest version) and then do a master reset to see if things come back.

Thanks. Can things be fixed using Forscan to communicate with APIM or am I chasing rainbows? I can’t see how Forscan can do anything about Navigation Volume for instance. Or how can it get the Assisted Parking screen to work? This is why I was wondering can I go back to what was installed at the factory using Forscan? Thanks for you help.

Are you able to find the ASBuilt files for my VIN? I have entered my vin into Motorcraft but it doesn’t find anything so I’m a bit concerned that Forscan will have the same issue?

Edit: I am getting a vin from my APIM which was updated to 3.4 via Cyanlabs. Is this not the right vin to use?

No, you use the VIN of your vehicle, that’s what Ford’s updater reads from the PCM and it’s only going to offer what was supported.
Based on what you posted, you started at Sync3 v2, you could use the downgrade mode of the updater to take you down to 3.0.20204 which is probably the highest build Ford supports for the car.
After doing this, make sure you run a master reset.

As stated in the Syn3 Updater instructions and FAQ, you cannot go back to Sync 3.0.xxxxx versions once you upgrade to Sync 3.2+ (3.2, 3.3, 3.4). There is no mechanism to reformat the APIM backwards.

As far as the features you say you have lost, these are more than likely correctable with asbuilt changes and/or reloading the correct files, or just as simple as a master reset and soft reboot.

I really sounds like the NAV and prompts are missing or the volume has been turned down on them. The volume control for these is separate from the radio, these must be adjusted while the prompts are playing, FYI.

The lowest I could go to in Cyan Labs was 3.3

In regards to the volume for the nav it’s locked at zero. So when the audio prompt lowers the media volume and ac fan when the volume is pressed it’s locked at zero. Also, when I type in my vin on the motorcraft website there is no information for my car. Will this pose a problem in Forscan? One would presume I need to find another vin for the same specced car in this scenario. I’ve ordered a cable and will install Forscan once it arrives. If you wouldn’t mind looking out for me here for help that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah there is an issue, it’s locked at zero, I can hear a hiss when voices are meant to kick in but no way of turning it up. I get a pop up saying volume 0.

Having issues with the puddle lights now. They turn on momentarily and then turn off? Low battery issue? Christ my car has issues. Don’t have heated windscreen and stop start stops working. from full battery it works then stops after a few days due to battery charging. New battery, battery management has been reset.

Sigh. This car is 2019 lads.

So you have the Non-Sony system. Probably no DSP.

Bad batteries do some weird stuff to cars now adays.

Little did we know. if you don’t have the hand brake/parking brake engaged the puddle lights flash on and off. Weird and interesting.

I thought it was a fault last night. I must have just forgot to apply the handbrake, car was on a flat concrete drive, it drove me mad, with all the issues I’ve been having, this morning, when I dropped the boys off at school it was working again as normal, tested it when I got home and yeah, flashes when brake is off. Is that designed in or just a quirk I wonder.

You mention you have a new battery but the stop/start feature does not work sometimes. This would only happen if the battery is losing a little of it’s charge consistantly which should not happen with a new battery. Suggest you get the battery tested in case you were given a faulty one or if you have something plugged in permanently such as a dashcam or phone that would also cause the issue.
