Trying to Downgrade so that I can upgrade to latest - getting error

I am trying to downgrade so that I can upgrade to the latest. I am getting the PKG_Err04 error. I am a mac only house, so can not use the app. The manual downgrade instrcutions aren’t super clear on what the files / strcuture needs to look like on the usb to downgrade. Any suggestions are appreciated.

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 3.2.20282

New SYNC Version: 3.4.19101

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
PKG_Err04

Update Method: CyanLabs Manual Method

You don’t need to downgrade if you are actually on Sync 3.2, only Sync 3.4 needs to be downgraded. You can either update with autoinstall or reformat using the automatic method. But, being on a Mac makes a few manual steps to do this.

First and foremost, DO NOT let your Mac automatically extract any of the files. They need to be intact for this procedure.
Second, if you have NAV go to the latest Sync version unless you have a specific reason for not doing so. (3.4.23188)
You will need to build the USB with the autoinstall and reformat files.
The USB structure is always the same with Sync updates, either apps or maps:
The autoinstall and reformat .lst files go in the root of the USB, all upgrade files go into the SyncMyRide folder on the USB. The MSA file is optional…
Here is an example:
Root:

  • • autoinstall.lst
  • • reformat.lst
  • • DONTINDX.MSA
  • • (folder) SyncMyRide
    • 5U5T-14G381-ET_1627475308000.TAR.GZ
    • 5U5T-14G391-AP_1626914045000.TAR.GZ
    • 4U5T-14G423-AC_1615425645000.TAR.GZ

But, first thing is first, run the interrogator Utility and post the XML file here. We want to make sure that the APIM is not MY20+.

Sorry My current Sync version is 3.4.20198. My usb files look like this.
I noticed in your example the 1u5t-14g386-cb.tar.gz is not there.

My APIM is not MY20+

Mods, you can close this thread, I found a windows machine and used the app to create the correct usb. Thanks!

You’re getting there…

For the whole procedure you need to include the files listed in the autoinstall and reformat files attached. You can place both of these files in the root of the USB.

autoinstall.lst (563 Bytes)
reformat.lst (657 Bytes)

The autoinstall.lst file contents:

; Reformat Mode - Sync 3.4 Downgrade

[SYNCGen3.0_3.4.23188_PRODUCT]
Item1 = PU5T-14G386-BB_1690840002000.TAR.GZ

So, for the autoinstall file, there are 4 files to be placed in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB:
So, for the reformat file, there are 15 files to be placed in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB:
This is 19 files total in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB:

NOTE: The filenames in the autoinstall and reformat files must match exacly the files contained in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB:

Once you begin the installation, DO NOT remove the USB or key cycle the ignition. Let the process continue.

Installation Instructions

NOTES:

  • This installation consists of multiple reboots, through which the vehicle ignition must remain on during the process. It is advised to either drive the vehicle or place the vehicle on a battery charger for the duration of the process. If for some reason the process is interrupted because the vehicle shut down, just start the process over, it will resume.
  • DO NOT REMOVE THE USB UNTIL THE ENTIRE PROCESS HAS COMPLETED. The process may take over 45 minutes including the downgrade.
  1. Place the vehicle ignition on, as outlined above.
  2. Remove all usb devices and usb connected phones from the system. Bluetooth connections are safe.
  3. Insert USB drive created above.
  4. If your present Sync version is 3.3.19052, the reformat tool will run immediately and reboot the system into the reformat mode.
  5. If your present Sync version is 3.4, the procedure will remove Gracenotes and downgrade first, then reboot into Sync 3.3.19052. DO NOT remove the USB or key cycle the ignition. Let the process continue.
  6. When the reformat tool loads after the reboot, you will see various Mustang backgrounds cycle on the screen with a progress bar. The progress bar may seem to freeze occasionally, this is normal.
  7. Wait for the installation to complete. This may take more than 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the USB at the message on the screen as shown below. The system will automatically reboot after the reformat and installation of the files.
  9. Once the installation is complete and the APIM has rebooted, navigate to the ‘About Sync’ screen under ‘Settings’ and verify the successful installation. Check the Navigation and wait for the maps to completely load. This might still take a few minutes, depending on the APIM model.
  10. Do not connect USB devices at this point.
  11. Proceed to the Master Reset.
