Tutorial: Sync 3.0.20204 with 2020 NA2.20 Map Installation.
Read this document fully before starting any actions. It is your responsibility to follow the instructions as outlined below.
NOTE: This procedure requires a specific license file for your vehicle generated by Ford for NA 2.20 maps due to the ESN license file lock. You must source a valid license for your vehicle thru Sync Navigation - Sync3 Map Updates.
NOTES:
- This process does not use the reformat tool and is safe for MY20+ Service Replacement APIM’s.
- This tutorial is targeted for Ford and Lincoln vehicles originally equipped with a 32GB NAV APIM with Sync 3.0 and factory navigation. The maps are not compatible with Sync 2 and 3.2+ versions. DO NOT attempt to place maps on a NON-NAV Sync APIM.
- It is advised that you run the APIM Interrogator Utility to determine the specifics of your Sync unit installed in your vehicle. This can be done thru the Syn3 Updater in the Tools section or manually following the tutorial, Tutorial: APIM Interrogator Utility - CyanLabs.
- It is recommended using a USB 3.0 drive with at least 32 GB of storage.
- This installation consists of multiple reboots, in which the vehicle ignition must remain on throughout the process. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB UNTIL THE ENTIRE PROCESS HAS COMPLETED.
- A ‘Master Reset’ will be performed at the end of this procedure.
Overview
If you have updated your Sync 3.0 NA NAV APIM to Sync 3.0.20204 (or recent Sync 3.0 version) with newer maps and you are experiencing hesitation and lag in the unit response, it is likely due to an incomplete or corrupted nav installation. This happens when the map installation is not performed correctly and leaves a mixture of old and newer files on the APIM. The old and new map files are not compatible and will cause the incomplete loading of the maps on boot, sometimes causing the APIM to constantly reboot. This issue can be corrected using the procedures in this tutorial.
This tutorial covers the installation of Sync 3.0.20204 with the associated Sync Voice and Gracenote files and the installation of NA 2.20 maps and nav voice files. These installations will be performed in two separate procedures, the Sync Apps installation, and the NA 2.20 Nav Package installation.
NOTE: It is required to perform the Sync Apps installation first, as the newer nav package is not compatible with some older Sync versions.
