Unable to update Sync 3 : V 2.2.16223 to 3.0.23219

Hello everyone,
First: I want to thanks who is maintaining this website !!!

Few weeks ago, I bought a car (second hand) - Ford Grand C-max 2.0 TDCI Titanium (S&S).

The sotware:
Sync 3 / version 2.2
build 16223
Gracenote ver: 1.1.1.794(EU-0010)
Navigation maps ver: EU 4 15
SYNC S/N (ESN): NV96001J

I went to the Ford web site in order to check if the system can be updated and it seems that “Yes”.
I have downloaded from the official Ford website the image ver. 3.0.23219.

As recommended, I tried to update by Wi-Fi (recommended by Ford) but nothing occurred…
After few days, I have finally decided to try the USB key update option.
What I did :
I have prepared a USB 16Gb (exfat format & unziped file from Ford website)
The engine car has been started and I have inserted the USB key.
A message popped up : “Updating system software…”
After 2 hours, the message was still present… I have finally decided to stop the engine, closed the car and leave the USB key inserted. In the morning, I took my car again I drived for 45 minutes : the message was still present “Updating system software…”

I have stopped the car and finally decided to remove the USB to see what happened :
On the USB key 2 folders were created (for each day I have tried to update)
Inside each folder a log file was present :
With the script : InterrogatorLog() + / CopyInterrogatorLog +

I finally tried to find out on Internet if someone can help me… and I found this website.

I have downloaded the Syn3 updater and create an Interrogator Log USB. Before inserting the USB, I did a master reset.

Unfortunately when I tried to “open the interrogator log”, I have an error message :

“The XML file you have selected does not contain the expected output. Syn 3 Updater has determined you are on 2.216223 and may be using overlays. Syn 3 is unable to determine the configuration of your APIM. Please request assistance on our forum…”

So Now I am asking your help.

Hello, before moving forwards, what’s your end goal?.

If it’s going to 3.0, try reading this guide → Two Step Installation for Sync 3.0 Versions (2.3 thru 3.0) from Sync 3.0 Early Versions (1.0 thru 2.1) Maintaining CarPlay

The key step in that guide is installing 2.2.17011 before moving forward, you can try just installing that first. There’s a post that can help you with just that → 2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #10 by SaNdMaN (you can now download the autoinstall.lst file for that file from that link).

Hi ! thank you very much for your help. I will read carefully what you have suggested. At the beginning, my end goal was to update Sync with an official update because I would like to see how it looks like (meaning Sync 3 v 3.0 working nicely / no error / nolags….). I am not a big fan to change update things which are not official (despite the fact that it seems to work nicely). I will back to you just in order to inform you as soon as ! I wish you a nice day.
