"Update completed, remove USB..." Message, then black screen. No life

Followed all of the steps on the Syn3 Updater tool, and ran My20 check, and found no issues. Downloaded all of the files properly to my knowledge, plugged USB in and afterwards it went to a black screen and no power. I have tried to Reset via ForScan, and also batteries disconnected. Nothing works. Will I need an entirely new APIM or would I be able to Firmware rescue via forscan and a obd ex adapter? All i have now is an ELM247 and cannot see the firmware update section on forscan.

The first problem I see if that you HAVE to have a 32Gb thumb drive to install nav and you only have a 16Gb based on the info you provided. This is clearly noted in the documentation you said you read under requirements.

A 2019 K series APIM should also come with 3.4 or 3.2 at the least. You have this starting at 3.0.23219 which is something a 2017 would have in it.

No power is a totally different issue though. You need to check fuses and power to the unit if that is truly what is happening. Are you sure the screen is not on and just blacked out? What modifications have you done with Forscan? Does you ELM have a switch on it?

If it is a MY 2020+ replacement APIM than no calibrations are going to fix this. The only real way to know this is to take the unit out and look at the date on the back unless you know it was replaced at some point.

When it updated, it was still on the old sync 3.0. I didnā€™t even make it to the loading bar. The top said updating and ran through that, then while still on 3.0 it said the update was completed and changes would take on next vehicle start up, then before even removing the drive or shutting it down, the screen went black.

When I turn it on, black screen, the USBs will light up for around 15 seconds or so, then the USB lights shut off.

Forscan modifications made to the APIM by me have only been adding the heated and cooled seats to it. I have downloaded my factory ab data and applied it. Yes, my ELM247 has a HS/MS switch on it.

Iā€™m hoping itā€™s not. When I get home later today, Iā€™m going to pull it and check. I ran the interrogator and it had determined I was safe. ( I understand itā€™s not always 100% rightā€¦)

If this is a My20, and itā€™s trashed now, I would be able to purchase any sync 3 APIM with Nav, correct? I have a few leads on used ones built in 2016.

Note to Self: thats a bit of a flaw, i should probably make it copy that xml file it uses to validate MY20 to appdata or something

Yeah, unfortunately I do not have it anymore.
I did physically see the message saying it was safe to proceed with the update. When I plugged it in for that, it did the same thing. Update complete, changes etc. Screen went completely black and after about 20 seconds it booted up.

Itā€™s possible you have a model that is not known as being My20 yet, or there is some other issueā€¦ we need the model information from the unit to continue really.

Is it possible to put apim PN GB5T-14G371-BF into my 2019 F350? Or would I need a ā€œnewerā€ HC3T-14G370-FCD ?
I have seen mixed results in saying any from 2016 will work, and other listings contradicting that.

What model is the car?
Several 2019 models (eg the Escape/Kuga) shipped with 3.0.x.

It comes down to what features you expect to see.
No matter what model, you will still need to drop your factory AS Built into the replacement unit.
Technically you could use any 3.0 APIM from 2016 on, you just need to keep in mind that not ALL models went to Sync 3 in 2016 (eg the Fusion).

I have a limited, so, pretty much everythingā€¦ 360 cam, trailer cam, heated cooled massaging seats and heated wheel. I found a few APIMs on eBay but looks to be Chinese sellersā€¦ just trying to make sure whatever one I get (again, if I have to purchase oneā€¦) is OEM and I can use all of my factory features.

Simple question: whatā€™s the ā€œdeadā€ APIMā€™s model?. (it can be read by Forscan)
Can you share a picture of the sticker on its back?.
Also, have you ever replaced the screen?. If you can, share the sticker on its back.

This unit was a 2024 Unit. Build date Jan/2024 and was appeared put in by a dealership April 12th. I bought the truck 3 weeks ago. Issue solved.

Yep. Interrogator failed to detect unfortunately. Whoops.
Ford parts have a 24Mo warranty and I see the service in my ford pass on 4/7 for ā€œElectricalā€ so hoping theyā€™ll cover itā€¦ there is a sticker on the Apim with what appears to be the install date

Unless you are aware of Linux, Virtual Machines and a bit of tech knowledge then it can be recovered :slight_smile:

Iā€™m fairly technically inclined. Whatā€™s the process of recovering these? In the case that they donā€™t warranty, and the one I have ordered coming in Tuesday doesnā€™t work.
