Im trying to go from 3.4 23088 to 3.4 23188 and it just says Updating system software but never proceeds. Im doing the update because of the rwdata problem and i have done it successfully twice before on different vehicles exact same thing. Only difference this is a non nav system. I was successfully with clearing the rwdata partition before the update. And i have updated this unit before from a 3.0 don’t remember build number
The silver bullet was to drop to 3.4.21265 with the RWDATA cleaner, after than completed I used ForScan to force a module reboot (or you can pull the battery cable for 30 minutes). Once it came back up I was able to take the unit to 3.4.23188.
I gotta be honest i don’t understand all the modes but i thought i couldn’t use reformat on 3.4 and up but if i can i definitely will try i anyway lose data when doing a reset after update
3.4 to 3.4 is simpler update hence Syn3updater auto selects autoinstall but yes you can reformat your apim anytime.
When upgrading both sync 3 and nav, syn3 updater actually chooses downgrade which basically downgrades and then reformats to update.
Personally I think forcing a reformat will work better especially if you are on a tight memory like you do right now
This installation may require that the APIM be reformatted using the [reformat]( Reformat Mode Instructions - CyanLabs ) tool and requires that the Sync software be downgraded to Sync version 3.3.19052 to utilize the [reformat]( Reformat Mode Instructions - CyanLabs ) tool. This process is NOT compatible for MY20+ vehicles.
Your APIM is not MY20 from what you mentioned so you are safe. Reformat should not be done on APIMs from 2020 onwards because it will brick the apim. It’s more about hardware than sync 3 version
The CyanLabs updater will build a USB with 3.4.21265 and the RWDATA cleaner on it if you select that version as the target version.
RWDATA cleaner cleans the partition out first so that you can actually get things to write to the APIM, then it puts 3.4.21265 on so that you have a version without the bug. The cold reboot afterwards gives you a clean version that you can then upgrade to 3.4.23188 from.
One last question what are the Apps you can now toggle to install. And i checked i have 1.7gb available but maybe they take up a bit to much storage should i just chose to leave them off
For non problematic updates it’s recommended to have at least 2 - 3GB free because the update instance needs about 1.5 - 2 GB of space. Anything less will make you vulnerable to constant reformatting or needing to use memory cleaning tools.
Generally installing apps like games, cool mods, themes is mostly done by Jailbraking your apim, you can learn more about that on Fmods forum. Syn3 updater is primarily for software updates.
If you’re referring to items shown by the updater keep all 3 (app, voices, gracenotes).
App is actually the Sync3 build and these files will be a 1 for 1 replacement of what is already there with what “shipped” with 3.4.21265 so when its done you’ll still basically have the same available space.
