I want to update my Sync 3 maps and software.
What type of installation should I choose?
Should I only update the maps?
Can I also update the software to version 3.4.22048?

Since you claim to have a MY20 unit, DO NOT REFORMAT IT…
You will need to work with autoinstalls. Keep MY20 protection active in Syn3updater, you can create the USB with the tool or manually.
I would stay at 21194. There really is nothing to be gained right now by upgrading. You should be at the most recent maps. New ones will be out soon hopefully.
What maps are on the unit? Probably NA 2.20 which is the latest. You are eligible to receive free map updates from Ford. Ford - Sync3 Map Update (syncnavigation.com)
