Have not tried to update to 3.4 because: when it came time to choose the map update version it showed 2021,2023,&2024 in red with a lock symbol. Using windows 11 and how to vid by Smackys garage (1 year ago vid) I loaded the red 2024 (latest) map update on a 16gig usb drive. Just afraid to try it in my sync infotainment system without an explanation of the red map updates. I am the original owner of my 2017 XLT ford truck.

It shows red lettering becuse it requires an ESN to install so that makes it require a reformat to get the new maps installed. If you do not have a 2020+ APIM than you are fine to choose it and reformat it to get the new maps. This is in the documentation that it asks if you read.
ESN is the embedded serial number for the APIM, when you buy maps from Ford they come with a license key that is added to the install for that specific ESN.
The only 2 ways around the ESN lock are either to reformat (which bypasses the install routine) or to jail break the APIM and use FMODS map file remover to remove the maps and copy over the new files (last I heard that was something like a 3.5 hour ordeal).
