Hi all. New to the forum and looking for some guidance. I recently purchased a 2016 F150. Factory equipped with Sync3 with Nav, current version 1.0.15139. I am trying to update the software to enable Android Auto. I apologize in advance if this has been covered already but I’m looking for clarification regarding the update process with the latest Syn3 version.
Ford indicates my vehicle is eligible to update to 3.0.23219. I have ready numerous reports of memory issues when updating from 1.0 to 3.0 directly with files from the Ford website. There are also reports of issues AA/CP not working which is due to, from my understanding, skipping version 2.2.
I’ve run an interrogator log and received error “The XML file you have selected does not contain the expected output. Syn3 Updater has determined you are on 1.0.15139 and may be using overlays. Syn3 Updater is unable to determine the configuration of your APIM. Please request assistance on our forum at https://community.cyanlabs.net”. I opened the xml file in Edge and found “ECU Delivery Assembly Number” with reponse “G5JT-14G371-CFC” which I believe if the APIM Model. Inputting this value into the manual APIM MY20 checker indicates it’s NOT MY20, so I think that’s good there for a “reformat” install. Let me know if there’s something I’m doing incorrectly regarding the Interrogator Log.
Ultimately, I want Android Auto to work. I am not planning on updating the HUB as I don’t need Carplay. New Sync features and maps wouldn’t hurt, so I’m not opposed to sync versions later than 2.2. I’m a bit confused as to the recommended process as many of the answers I’ve found online refer to manual usb creation for 2.2, where it seems as though Syn3 2.14.2.0 (stable) seems to have much of this automated. I am using a Kingston 32gb DataTraveler3.0 USB.
Should I initially update from 1.0 to 2.2? If so, is this literally as simple as using the “Create 2.2 Upgrade USB” in the utility tab and plugging it into the truck? (shown in the attached log file)
Should I then go from 2.2 → 3.0 using the files from Ford.com?
Should I just go from 1.0 → 3.4 through Syn3 right from the get go? Skip 2.2 altogether?
I appreciate any insight you can provide. If there is anything I can provide to help please let me know. Cheers.
