Updating Sync 3 APIM Firmware (Calibration Files)

Hi F150Chief

Thank you for your reply. Which is the latest version that go for the Pre-MY18.5? It is a Mondeo.

Vehicle does not matter. For reliability, 1U5T-14G374-DA would be about right.

Would someone be so kind as to direct me to a link to download the following files?:

GB5T-14G376-AA.VBF
GB5T-14G374-CA.VBF
GB5T-14G375-DA.VBF
GB5T-14G379-AA
GB5T-14G379-BA

My APIM is black screened after a jump start and I’m hoping I can get it reflashed with ForScan, but I’ll need the above files to attempt it if what I have read this evening is correct and I’m interpreting things correctly as well. Thank you in advance for your help.

See your messages…

What would I need to provide to get the latest for mine? Forscan won’t detect it as it’s not the same as the one that came with the car and it’s the last thing I want to try for the issues I’ve been having before I just give up and disable GPS in the asbuilt.

It’s a K series if that helps.

See this:
APIM Firmware Production Releases - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community

A K series would be at this level at minimum:
3.2/3.3 APIM NAV & NON-NAV Unit Firmware (Production Release, 2018.5, Late J thru K Series)
Secondary Boot Loader: GB5T-14G376-AA
Strategy (F188): 1U5T-14G374-DA (6/27/2018)
Calibration (F124): 1U5T-14G375-DA (NAV) / 1U5T-14G375-CA (NON-NAV)
ECU Configuration/Sound Profiles (F10A): GB5T-14G379-AA
ECU Configuration/Illumination Strategy (F16B): JB5T-14G379-BA (6/7/2018)

If you provide your VIN via PM I can tell you what it came from the factory.

My original was a J series, I put this one in to get X40 SiriusXM (I think that’s why Forscan is confused).

I don’t have the donor VIN but there is a sticker on it that says 2019 FLEX. I’ll grab a pic of the calibration screen sometime this weekend, hopefully that’ll bring some clarity.

This is what Forscan shows:

The calibration file is for EU…
xxxx-14G375-H*.vbf 64GB EU with NAV (Telenav)
This should be 1U5T-14G375-DA (NAV) / 1U5T-14G375-CA (NON-NAV).

The APIM is from a 2019 Fiesta Mk8:
KU5T‑14G371‑GJA, 64GB, WITH NAV
This is an EU APIM. It will work for NA, but it will need to have the firmware reprogrammed for NA. It will not work properly as it is programmed now.

2019 Flex(Last year they were made) did not come with Sirius 360L(x40). A K series should work fine with it as long as you have the wiring and the right ACM.

And the APIM is programmed for the proper region…

Ah yes! That to. Many people try to enable Nav in motion and it makes the Sirius stop working.

Yep.

The best part is the Sirius has been working great after enabling it in the AsBuilt

It’s just Nav and some weirdness with the IPC that I’m having trouble with.

You will need the proper firmware to fix the nav…

Forscan seems confused when I try and won’t show me any available. Is there somewhere else I can get it from?

Yes, see your PM.

FORScan unfortunately does not give you the options like other programming software to look for other firmware outside of the normal Ford updates. But you can do it manually without issues.

Hey. Just for context, I have a 2017 Fusion with 2nd gen H series APIM, and I’m trying to enable Auto Hold. Although Fusions never had that feature, same year MKZs (which share all the wiring and modules based on my Wiring Diagrams book) did ship with it, so I believe it should be possible to do that.

In MKZs, the autohold physical button is in the FCIM. I’m trying to do the same through the APIM, which is how it works in 2018+ EU Ford Focus (MK4) - but those ship with Gen 3s and 4s as far as I’m aware.

What I’ve do so far:

  • replaced whole ABS assembly with a “max” version and enabled autohold through AsBuilt
  • updated firmware to a 2018.5 *-DA and enabled “Driver Assist → Auto Hold” menu/switch through AsBuilt too
  • master reset

I’m now at a point where Auto Hold is in the menu, but is greyed out. I’ve read through this and previous discussions and saw multiple comments stating comments stating that some features require newer hardware APIM.

My question is, what’s the hardware difference between a Gen 2 and Gen 3/4 APIM? Is it internal only or does it require other CAN buses to work? Will upgrading APIM hardware to K/L series solve my problems? Is there a chance that a newer calibration will fix that on my APIM?

I can see that my car doesn’t have HS4, so it possible that cars that do support toggling AutoHold on/off through Sync3 are doing that through HS4?

UPD: according to this spreadsheet only TCU communication is done through HS4, so it sounds like that’s not it.

Sorry for lots of questions and thanks in advance.

H series APIM is a 1st Gen. I don’t think it will take a newer Calibration either. The H series modules are really difficult to work with and easily brick when updating calibrations.

HS4 Networks were not added until 2020+ and the Fusion never got it. I would have to look but I don’t think the MKZ got it either. The only thing they did was put the TCU on the HS4 for extra security reasons. You cannot upgrade to HS4 unless you want to replace most the modules in the car.

Yeah it’s 1gen, my bad.

But I don’t think it’s the HS4 that is the problem. There’s no reason they couldn’t have used HS3 for the same purposes. That’s why I’m wondering if upgrading to a newer APIM will solve this problem.
