Upgrade direct from OEM version 3.0.20204 to 3.4.23088 and I am missing android auto

I think I screwed myself but came here to verify… I upgraded sync 3 v1.0 using OEM files USB obtained from ford website to upgrade to version 3.0.20204. I then used Syn3 updater 2.11.10.0 to update to 3.4.23088 and I am missing android auto. Further research suggests I should have done and intermediate upgrade from 3.0 v1 to 2.2.17011 in order to get android auto to show up first but that is not what fords site suggested, and then upgrade to 3.4. Is there any way I can get android auto now, or have I screwed myself?

I’m running Sync3 3.0 and AA works ok, so that’s not the issue here.

Did it used to work before upgrading?.
Have you master reset?.
On the phone, make both Android Auto and the phone itself forget about Sync3 and re-pair the phone again.

It did not work before upgrading. I tried on 3.0 V1 then 3.0.20204 and then 3.4.23088. Could not get to work on any of them.
Yes it was master reset.
Did a forget and repair, still no joy.
On startup I get the error USB hubs are not supported please remove
Also when I try to search for apps I get the message “No apps found SYNC enabled mobile NAV apps can only be found when connected via USB.” It of course is connected via USB cable when I get this message.

This is where I got that I needed an interim upgrade. Post copied " Dakota, it sounds like you have the same issue as I had. Going from 1.0 to 3.0.20204 is your issue. The same thing happened to me. I currently have 3.0.20204 and CarPlay/AndroidAuto enabled.

I am assuming based on your screenshots you have the navigation unit (same as me)

Go to SYNC 3 APIM Software (IVSU) Database - CyanLabs and get the ‘HN1T-14G381-SA_64817.tar.gz’ file. This is the Sync 3 2.2.17011 for NAV package and download this.
You also need this file from one of their posts: https://community.cyanlabs.net/uploa…Poy24m4yQK.lst (autoinstall.lst)
You can copy the DONTINDX.MSA file from the 3.0 upgrade USB you have

Get another USB stick and, do the exfat format and put the files like this

Then do the downgrade (same way you did the upgrade before, just with the new USB). For me it took a loooong time. This will just downgrade sync to 3.0 v2.2.17011

Once it reboots (keep an eye on it because mine rebooted and would have started the update if I had not pulled the USB before), pull the USB drive and let it reboot.

Give it a few minutes to get situated and then you should be able to see the Android Auto in the settings. Enjoy!

For me I set up to get OTA updates and checked for updates. Then I let it go and the next day it had updated to an intermediate 3.0 version and finally today made it up to 3.0.20204

Problem here is that I can no longer downgrade from 3.4 to anything lower than 3.3.19052 which I have not attempted yet

Oh I see, there was some contradictory information on your opening post and I’ve misread that information.

So, you went from Sync3 1.0 to 3.0, Android Auto did not work.
Then you upgraded to 3.4 using Cyanlabs, and it still does not work.

I’m not that sure if that “interim version” applies here, it’s for sure an issue for some users that went for Sync3 3.0… But again, does that apply to 3.4?, I’m not sure to be honest.

As you already know, there’s no way to go back to anything prior 3.2, so you are stuck here.

If you have already master reset and performed basic troubleshooting, I would try getting rid of that “hub not supported” message. That generaly prevents Car Play from working, but usually Android Auto should work… Not always of course, but usually it works…

So that’s what I would do next, replacing the hub.

The upgrade from Sync3 1.0 to 3.20204 is what fords site recommended. I assume AA should have worked then? I also never got the USB hub not supported message until it was upgraded to 3.4. I will order the new USB hub if you still think that is worth a try. Just seems weird. Also, would I even have the search for apps icon in sync if the system did not support AA. I don’t think i would. Going to try a real samsung cable once I buy one tomorrow since that is only 15 bucks vs a 150 USB hub. I have a 2016 F150 Your link lists a part # range for the USB hub for that vehicle. Which I am unsure of which one to order

Yep, Ford introduced that error (omitting the 2.2 interim version).

I’m currently running 3.0.20204, Android Auto works fine (and has been working fine since I got the car).

This is expected, your unit with older hardware was never meant to run 3.4.

Those are completely unrelated, and as far as I remember Ford has been “killing” mobile apps in the last few builds. So if no apps are found, that may be the case.
Mobile apps does not require Android Auto to work, just to match a phone with supported apps (by Sync3).

Agreed, make sure the cable is good before moving forward.
I just assumed it was a good cable.
My personal experience with Android Auto is that the cable does not matter that much, as long as it supports data transfer, it will work. But we had other reports from people that had issues with the cable.

About what part to order, maybe @F150Chief can assist if you do not know your current part number.

I tried a new OEM cable no joy. I also unplugged the USB hub and used adapters to go from the mini USB plug cable on the harness to USB C phone. No android auto.I assume this test eliminates the USB hub as the possible cause. Can anyone tell me what part I need to replace to fix the fact I cannot go backwards to the firmware that enabled AA.
