I just purchased a HJ5T-14G087-UF TCU of ebay that I want to install in the next few days. I want to get it done before my free 2-month Forscan access expires. I should be receiving the antenna any day. I understand there’s some programming that needs to be done to get this to work. I still have the factory Sync2 system and would like to get this done first before purchasing a Sync3 system. I’ve downloaded the asbuilt for my vehicle from Ford and have that (attached),
but I’m not quite sure what the steps are to do the conversion. I have a copy of the 21B09 from Ford that explains the steps for installing the new hardware, but once it’s all plugged in I haven’t yet found what I need to do to get everything configured. I did find a thread TCU HJ5T Asbuilt Discussion , but I’m still pretty new and not sure what I’m reading just yet. Sorry to be such a newb.
You can’t use your AB as it’s for a 3G/G series unit.
Did you purchase the correct PFIFA antenna and cable since that needs to be replaced also?
Bill has a Ford dealer updated Energi, I believe you’ll find the correct ASBuilt on here.
To activate on a new unit you would follow apply Bill’s AB first to the TCU, then follow F150Chief’s doc and reapply Bill’s AB once you’ve got it activated.
Thank you! I will for sure refer to it. Actually, I did dig into it and was curious why your HPDM was disabled in the 754.02.01 x*xx-xx. I would have expected a value of E instead of A.
I purchased my 2018 Fusion Energi last year. The previous owner didn’t do the CSP upgrade. I’m looking to do this upgrade as well. I want to be able to measure my battery charge and stuff from the app. Does anyone know if there additional parts required for this function?
This is the first forum I’ve come across (so far) that is specifically for an Energi. Lots of useful information on here already, and I’m almost ready to pull the trigger on buying an H series TCU from eBay. Looks like I will be ordering a ford antenna.
Edited to add my car is originally from Canada, but I live in the US. I assume buying and using an American TCU should not be an issue.
Get a used H series TCU from a US donor, it doesn’t have to be from a Fusion/MKZ.
You’ll also need the correct PFIFA antenna.
Here’s the link for the original CSP doc.
Here’s what the factory H series TCU install looks like on the Hybrid, antenna is right front, TCU is left rear. To use this antenna you would use an extension FAKRA cable.
I just got around to installing the TCU and antenna. Followed the directions and the AUTH_STATE is currently “Waiting for Auth Mode”. When I went to add my vehicle to the Ford app as soon as I scanned the VIN it told me that “Mobile features unavaiulable. This vehicle is not equipped with mobile connection capabilities. Limited features are available for this vehicle.” I must have missed something, but I’ve gone through the directions twice and am not sure… Any thoughts? Looks like if I see this message the directions say there’s nothing I can really do. Is it just a question of time for the Ford servers to flip the bits? Should I remove the vehicle from the app and delete the app again and wait a few days before trying to add the vehicle again? Or do I just leave it as is and maybe the next time i open the Ford app again I’ll be prompted to authorize? Crossing all the fingers…
I was able to get the 4g compatible (H series) TCU installed along with the antenna. However, following the guides from this forum has not yet allowed me to add my vehicle to the Ford app to see anything. All of the guides I’ve found so far were for the FordPass app. At some point several years ago it seems Ford discontinued that app and now it’s just Ford. I don’t know if anyone has ever been able to follow the guides provided by Bill or F150chief with the newer Ford app. I’ve been stuck for the last 6 days or so with the “Waiting for Auth” status after cycling through the 3-4 states (factory, connecting, etc). Whenever I go to add the car to the Ford app it says right away that this vehicle doesn’t have any features basically so it never prompts in the vehicle or the app to authorize. I have an appointment on Friday with the dealership to see if they can do whatever to enable the access I (and you) are hoping for with our Fusion energi. It sucks since it’ll be at least $175.. Could be even more if the tech doesn’t know what he’s doing and ultimately throws his hands up.
Make sure you have the fields set as they are listed in F150Chief’s doc, do NOT apply Bill’s AB until the car is authorized.
H series TCUs are country specific, if you are in the US you need a TCU from a US donor, if you’re in Canada the TCU needs to come from a Canadian donor.
Thank you. I think I misunderstood your previous post when you said
“To activate on a new unit you would follow apply Bill’s AB first to the TCU, then follow F150Chief’s doc and reapply Bill’s AB once you’ve got it activated.”
I applied Bill’s AB and didn’t realize the values listed in F150Chief’s were necessary to change the AB again.
Am I interpreting this correctly from F150Chief’s document:
Block 1 754G1G1B13200000040 754G1G2005E would look like the following in Forscan:
754-01-01 B132 40
754-01-02 005E (The H series TCU doesn’t have a second row for Block 1 as illustrated by Bill’s screen shot)
and Block 2 754G2G103A001 would look like this:
754-02-01 03A0 01
Also, Block 3 stops at 754-03-08 (for the H model) whereas F150Chief’s doc goes through to 754-03-A. I wonder if everything he has listed after 754-03-08 is just irrelevant to the H TCU and can be ignored or if something should map to my 754-03-08 from his info…
Also, I believe I saw on another thread that the “B” value in block 1 is for vehicles running Sync 3. But if the vehicle is still Sync 2 that the “B” should actually be an “A”?
Thank you for the help. I’m sorry if these questions are annoying.. It seems this was a lot more popular a topic about 5 years ago when folks were dealing with this. There aren’t as many of us these days acquiring older vehicles that are trying to dust off the old topics.
I bought mine through a dealership in the US and I am in the US. There is speculation about the last bytes of the AB on them as being US or CA. Mine looks like a CA version but it is not.
H series TCU don’t define US or Canadian territories. J series forward do.
Depending on the installed firmware you might have less asbuilt lines, make sure you are programmed to -UM, which I believe is the latest for the H series TCU.
Are you running Sync 2 or 3? This is a distinct difference in the programming and activation.
I am currently running Sync 2. Should I not use the guide that’s referenced at the beginning of this thread? It also appears to be -UM. Forscan actually says there’s a -UP available.
The TCU looks fine as far as stats but you have a low cell signal. It’s usable but low. Asbuilt looks fine.
As far as Sync 2:

All other guidelines apply…you should see a message similar to this.
Thank you. I will check my APIM value to make sure it’s set to 1. It really seems like when it is connecting to the servers (which it seems to be doing as it goes through the various stages from Factory to Waiting for Auth) it isn’t telling the the servers that there’s been a change to this particular vehicle that it is now capable of sending/receiving data for the app. Just as soon as I use the app to scan my VIN it immediately says this vehicle is not capable of bla bla bla… Anyway, I’ll take a look tonight at the APIM. Worst case scenario I keep my appointment with the Stealership on Friday to hopefully get it working properly.
Regarding updating to -UP… I’m a little nervous to do it as I’ve seen Forscan crash on me every once in a while and I’d hate to brick my TCU by not being able to fully complete the firmware update. If it’s the -UP that’s been preventing me all along from getting the connectivity I may just let the Stealership handle it since I’m going to have to pay them for at least an hour’s worth of service anyway.
