USB hub and sync3 retrofit

It’s my understanding that the USB-C/USB-A hub will only work with sync3 3.4 or later correct? So if I am buying an APIM that is not yet on 3.4, I’m assuming I need the USB hub to update to 3.4. Does that mean I’m stuck with having to get a dual USB-A hub? I know my sync2 hub will not work with AA or CP, but can I use it to update the APIM to 3.4 and then install the USB-C hub? Thanks.

Personally my experience is that it depends on the model/year and model of the APIM.
I’ve had a 40/60 success rate using true Ford units when it replaced either the dual USB A or the single USB with extension. Most 2020 models work, but I’ve its hit or miss on say a 2019 Fusion which came with a 3.4.x compliant APIM while on some Escapes (which even in 2019 had 3.0.x) where they aren’t seen by the APIM even with it being updated to 3.4.x .

The one I’m looking at is a KS7T-14G370-BCH MFG date 1/11/19. Have you had luck with this one? I thought 2020 models (L series) were a no go if you wanted to be able to update it.

the sync 2 hub is not compatible with sync 3

the sync 3 1.0/2.0 hub would be fine but it won’t work for carplay

I’ve used those for updates with no issues, I was specifically referring to the USB A/USB C dual port hub.
MY2020 APIMs will brick if you use the CyanLabs update tool to reformat them, the only way to reformat MY2020 APIMs is to follow the FMods path which is not supported here.

Ok, this was what I was wondering. If I could use my existing sync2 hub, with SD card and line in, to perform the update to 3.4 and then use the USB-C hub. It sounds like no, that I am stuck buying a dual USB-A hub. Thanks.

Yeah, that’s what I was wondering, if you’ve had luck with using the USB-C hub with this APIM version.

I’ve had some work and some not work, so my gut says there’s a change somewhere in the internal circuit board.
The 2019/2020 Fusions came from the factory with a double USB A port in the same form factor and I’ve swapped the USB A/USB C in for people and on some 2019’s they work, some they don’t (and that’s with the APIMs on 3.4.x), but they always work on 2020 Fusions which have GR26A LS7T APIMs.
Conversely FRDNB LL3T usually work fine, but FRND LL3T can be spotty even with the same calibration in them as an LS7T.

Do you know if someone makes a bezel adapter to go from the wide USB hub to the narrow if I decide to try the USB-C module? I’ve seen one to go from the really wide (with video inputs) to the wide module but I haven’t been able to find one to go from the wide to the narrow.

Ah the million dollar question. I have only found 1 person in China that sells them for $30 which seems high and risky.

I personally am waiting till someone in the US has them for $10 and I will get one. It’s just a 3d print job since Ford never made these.
