What does ESN Locked mean on a map? I have a Chinese vehicle and I want to upgrade the system and maps. Can I start making a USB drive like the picture? It has a red lock sign and I don’t understand what it means, so I’m a little worried.

You need a license to install CN maps, they are locked. The license can be obtained from Ford if your vehicle qualifies for new maps, either paid or free.

How do I know if I have a license? Can I know after I install it in the car?

Go to the Ford Navigation website Ford - Sync3 Map Update and check if your vehicle qualifies.

I have a 12 model Focus with an extra syn3 installed. Can I still check it through vin? I have a map before. Can it represent me to install it?

Sync retrofits DO NOT qualify for any updates thru Ford. Ford will still think you are on the original eqyuipment.

Use the Syn3 Updater to update your Sync and Maps.
