2019 Navigator Sync 3 update BLACK SCREEN!

Hello all. I attempted to perform a 3.4 update to my Navigator’s Sync 3.0 using the download from cyanlabs syn3 updater. It prompted the restart property when I inserted the usb into the Navigator but the install screen never came up, just black. I only have a black screen now. APIM is visible and no faults in forscan. Have pulled apim fuse, forced an apim reset in forescan, etc.

Since the unit is visible via Forscan, check the APIM model number and tell us what it is.

Something is not right here. A 2019 Lincoln does not come with 3.0 and would come with 3.2, What is happening reeks of a 2020+ APIM. I doubt this is a retrofit so it must have had the APIM replaced by Ford?

interesting. The version I posted is directly from the sync screen AND agrees with the lincoln owner website that connects to the vehicle remotely.

On top of not having good information at the moment, he also references to a 3.0 build that does not exist… did he meant 3.2.something?, who knows…

But I’m also curious to see why he set this:

That’s odd… Is your screen 4 or 8 inches?..

About the APIM model, doesn’t Forscan have an “all module” section were all are described?.

I don’t know if it’s 8 but definitely not 4. It’s the huge one that came in the 18+ Navigators.

Well, your case keeps getting interesting.
That APIM model is not listed on our hardware database, so we cannot know if it’s MY20 or not.
Would you be able to unmount it and take a photo of the sticker?, that would give us the confirmation.

I’m not finding information about that APIM on the forum or the internet…
On our DB, JL7T-14G371-* models are not marked as MY20 though…

Is the unit operative?, does it do anything?.
Audio?, radio?, phone?, usb ports?, backup camera?.

Nevermind about this setting, based on what you described it died after the reformat tool was correctly autoinstalled, so visual theme is not an issue at this point since there’s no SYNC3 operating system.

audio played through the speakers when it dinged for the 15 minute shutdown . Backup camera does not work. bluetooth does not appear to work. hvac appears to be responding to button inputs. Im not sure how id test usb power.

At this point I’m running out of ideas.
For testing the USB, you could plug your phone to see if it charges.

But based on what you described and the log you provided, the unit installed the reformat tool and then rebooted into a black screen…

That’s a MY20 compatible behavior and if that’s the case, the unit is dead.
Only exception would be if the screen is MY20 but the APIM is not, maybe you could recover the unit while temporarily connecting a NON-MY20 screen so that the tool can reformat the unit.

But these are all gesstimations…

Is it worth unplugging the apim to ensure it has lost power and then try to boot it? I’d also obviously get the photo of the sticker at that time. I was just assuming pulling the fuse would do the trick.

Just for giggles try a sync soft reset if you haven’t already done so.
Hold the sync power button and fast forward >>> button down together for 10 seconds or so to see if it reboots.

May not do anything but you have nothing to lose. :wink:

There is only 1 Power wire on C2383A to the APIM so yes, the fuse would work.

If you replace the APIM than I would recommend a K series APIM. This is also the one that usually came with a 2019 and is most likely to have a calibration that would have the features used by your vehicle. There is nothing wrong with a J series but never go with an H series APIM. Do not go higher than an L or above series since those are 2020+ models.

As long as you get what is in the picture of the one you posted than you should be fine. If the seller programs it based of your VIN than it will be plug and play.
