Black screen and no power USB after update

Hello,

I have used the updater to update my sync 3 system to the latest version.
First I used the interrogator and all was well.
Then I made the update with de updater tool and put it in my car.

After I got the message that the update was finished, I had to remove the usb stick and the system restarted…but not coming on again.
When I put the usb back in the slot, it doesn’t light up so I think there is no power to the usb.

I really hope someone can help me with this problem, because I don’t no what is going on.

How long did the update take before you pulled the thumb drive out?

Not so long, i guess not much longer than 5 till 10 minutes.
On the screen came the message that the update was done and I had to remove the usb.

Then the system restarted and went black…resetting the Apim doesn’t work either.

You pulled the thumb drive out to early. With EU maps it should take over an hour and in some cases close to 2 hours.

That could be, but as I said…I had to remove the usb stick.
So I did.

Do you have Forscan and an adapter?
If so, get the APIM model from there.

If you do not have that, have you ran the interrogator log? What APIM model did it show?

If you do not have any of that, you will have to remove the unit and check the sticker.

If the unit does not show any sign of life, it seems to be a MY20 reformat…

This unit has already been reformatted, so this is a case of a failed update.

When you pulled the USB, the unit had not rebooted yet?
Did you ever see Sync 3.3 appear?
Or was it after that?

The unit made a reboot and after a couple of seconds it showed me the update was done/finished.
I had to remove the usb and press ‘ok’.
Then it restarted or rebooted again but never came up…the black screen.

I really don’t have a clue what happened and what I did wrong.

Did you perform a soft reset?

Soft Reset

There is a reset procedure for Sync of performing 2 reboots in a row, one right after the other, that can clear errors and free memory being used by temporary files. This is effective for the BGMAP and other errors also. Using the Soft Reset option will free up some storage/memory for the short term in perform a reformat and/or upgrades/downgrades. This procedure does not normally clear any user settings, stored phones, nav destinations, etc.

If possible, perform a Master Reset under Settings > General > Reset. This may not be possible, and the unit will hang. If the unit hangs while trying to perform a Master Reset, try performing a key cycle first to see if that helps completing the Master Reset. Continue with the steps below.
Once the unit has fully rebooted, perform two soft reboots in a row.
Hold the power button and next track (seek >) button on the center console interface at the same time for about 8 seconds or until the screen goes black. The APIM will reboot, and the system will restart.
Once the first soft reboot is done, perform the second soft reboot as above.
Once the system is back up after the second soft reboot, try to run the update, etc.

First of all i am very grateful for the help i get…

The problem is that I have a black screen, i can’t get into the settings > General…
Also it seems that the USB doesn’t work, because when I put in the thumb stick nothing lights up (the usb stick I mean)

I have tried the power button and seek > button a couple of times, but nothing happens

This is a bit of a reach, but try disconnecting the battery on the vehicle for about 30 minutes, then reconnect and start the vehicle. See if this boots the APIM beyond where it is.

I want to try everything and will do that first thing in the morning.

By disconnecting the battery…you mean get both poles off and let it stay for 30 minutes.
I hope this will bring back some life in the APIM

No nothing as far I’m seeing.
USB port doesn’t light up my thumb drive,.
No radio, phone pairing or rear camera

In the meantime I tried the combination eject button and seek > with no result.
Also I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, which also didn’t get the life back in the APIM
