Firmware Update (APIM and BCM and others)

Hello,
My car has Sync 3 system. I updated it to version 3.4 with the steps you showed. My car is EU version.

Sync 3.4 Build 22251 and Gracenote 1.1.1.2316 (EU-0020) Nav.Map.Ver. F11 Sync Serial Num. LX6***DW.

I can’t see some blocks in APIM and BCM modules in my vehicle (blocks starting with 7D0-09 or 726-28). So I guess I need to do a firmware update. However, I need information and help about which update files I need to access and in what order I should install them so that I can reach the current version, see the missing blocks.

I searched a lot on the site. There’s a lot of information, but I had to ask because of the risks and it’s a bit confusing.

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Hey there.

About firmware upgrading, there are a few threads you should look into.
Mainly, this one → Updating APIM Firmware (Calibration Files)

Since it went a little bit out of control (massive questions, over 850 messages), a new one was created Updating Sync 3 APIM Firmware (Calibration Files) and it’s still open. That one should be used for posting questions and doubts.

I’m sure you will find all the information required and get proper support there.

Thank you for your interest.
But I couldn’t update my car this way. The “APIM Firmware Update” option does not appear in Forscan. What am I doing wrong, or should I go another way?
I’m not very knowledgeable on the subject. I’m still trying to learn new. So please excuse my ignorance.

I’m not knowledgeable about the process, the safest way is for you to post your questions or doubts on the other threads I’ve referenced before, then wait for someone to jump in.

Pretty sure if you don’t have that option you aren’t using a compatible adapter or are using outdated forscan

Hi,
I am using vLinker FS v2.2.91.beta6 MIC3322 V2.0.91.beta6 adapter and Forscan 2.3.50 Release. This (vLinker) product is also recommended on the Forscan site.

Hi,
So here’s my question. I upgraded from 4.2 sync to 8" screen 3.4 build 21265.
My APIM is JS7T-14G371-JED, my ACM is HC3T-19C107-CK (SDAR with HD) which I also upgraded from HC3T-19C107-AJ. Everything works and I get the HD and FM OTA logos and calm screen, but I don’t get the Sirius XM album art and logos. Is it worth it to update the firmware in an attempt to get the logos or have I missed something, seems I’ve read so much here and FTE it’s getting confusing. I also don’t have the option on my Forscan screen in modules for APIM Firmware, my adapter is a OBDLinkEX all the drivers are up to date and I’m running Forscan 2.3.50.

You need the paid version of FORScan.

You need to upgrade you APIM to at least a late 2019 version.

I need to replace my APIM with a newer one?

Mine has the same problem. Only way I was able to get some of the Sirius XM logos back was to downgrade to 3.3 and run that version for a few weeks. It seems that had some of the logos. Then I upgraded that to the latest build of 3.4 and now I have most of the logos. Missing some like 80s on 8 but I now have classic rewind , first wave, 70s on 7, classic vinyl and others…

What APIM do you have, my truck is a 2017 and I upgraded from Sync to Sync 3 (4" to 8") I don’t know the firmware version I do know the Part number: JS7T-14G371-JED Calibration level: JS7T-14G371-JHF Strategy : HB5T-14G374-CA Calibration: HB5T-14G375-BA I also have the 7D0-08-xx and the 7D0-09-xx in my APIM.abt program saved file. When I installed this the first time it came with 3.4 on it but I had to down grade it to 3.2 and then upgrade it. The problem I had was black screen, It would not come on randomly at times, the company I got the upgrade from hooked up to my laptop via internet and spent about an hour going thru everything and then they sent the files and told me how to downgrade and then upgrade and that fixed it. but the logos never showed up. I’ll try a downgrade to 3.3 and leave it for a few weeks and see what happens.
Thanks

My APIM is Part Number: JS7T-14G371-KED from a 2017 Fusion.
Strategy is: HB5T-14G374-CA
Calibration: HB5T-14G375-CA
From what I understand, once you upgrade to Sync 3.4, the lowest you can downgrade to is 3.3
I originally went to sync 3.0 to 3.4 about a year ago and had no xm logos. I just dealt with it.
About a month ago I was bored and downgraded to 3.3 with the reformat option and it went back to the old look from 3.0 and had a few logos but not many and none of the stations that I listened to. So a few weeks ago I upgraded back to 3.4 (most recent build) cause i saw that one of the previous builds included the logos. I was shocked that it worked for the most part but is not 100 percent. For example, on December 26th, Holly stopped christmas music and that is when the Holly logo appeared and is still there today. The new Billy Joel did not get a new logo…80s on 8 is missing and about 20 other channels. I am trying to learn not to care… If you want to try to go to 3.3 and see what happens. Go right to channel 2 (Hits 1) or 16 (The Blend). Those were ones that I remember had a logo. I don’t think you have to wait a few weeks to update to 3.4 afterwards. I was going to stay on 3.3 and that is why I waited. In the end I wish I never went down this road. I have spent many hours over nonsense, wasting gas running these updates, searching on forums for answers to a simple question (where are my logos?) and seeing snarky and rude answers. I’m pretty much over it but cannot resist coming back to check for a new build that will fix it once and for all. I really wish I just stayed on 3.0 which worked just fine. Good luck to you and let me know how you make out.

Thanks for your input, I don’t recall if they had me go to 3.2 or 3.3 I still have all the files on a jump drive. I will take a look and see what it is. My Ford is an F350 Crew Cab 6.7 bought it new in 2017, it’s a XL with vinyl seats came as a basic with 12K in options but no power anything. I am a master electrician I own my own business for 23 yrs now. Not long after I had the truck I realized power windows and locks are worth it, so began my quest for OEM equipment 5 yrs ago, and FORD Dealer said oh it cant be done even aftermarket will be hard to do. LOL I now have over 20 mods all OEM power everything for the doors, ever seen a XL vinyl seats with OEM heated seats…mine are heated Raptor steering wheel with paddle shifters. It’s been my hobby and I enjoy doing it. I went from a standard key, to a remote and remote start with key less entry. My 40 yr old son calls it my XL Ariat. Again thanks for your input and I will let you know how it works out.

Won’t be 3.3 then

The APIM I have is JS7T-14G371-JED, its not the APIM that came in the truck that was a FL3T-14B428-RA with a 4" screen, I upgraded to a 8" touch screen APIM and ACM.

As far as I understand, no one has experienced the problems we are experiencing right now. I guess no one knows how to solve these problems. In this case, would it be beneficial for me to downgrade my version?

I"m going to try 3.3 the version I did before was 3.3 and then back to 3.4 like i said that took care of the black screen. So I’ll do the 3.3 and see what happens, and post results here, also see it I ever get the APIM Firmware Update in Forscan. I’m also debating if I should try an APIM I was given as a backup It’s a GB5T-14G371-FF but I hear those are a pain to update and upgrade. I might give it a shot seeing how this weekend goes.

Keep us posted. I haven’t found 1 good video or detailed explanation on how to update the apim firmware. I have seen videos on youtube talking about it, but none that have a complete walkthrough. If you are able to do it, please let us know how you did it.
