Please describe in detail your issue below
…
Hi all,
I was following the upgrade procedures and everything was going well, until the above mention red screen message popped out. It seem the error came during the process of installing the gracenotes file.
I have tried search through the forums here and have not find any similar cause. So looking for some expert advise.
Note, I did re-run the process already, and the only uncertain part now is perhaps this may be related to the Gracenotes file been too big for my system?
Thanks for reading and for any advise you may have.
Where you able to install everything but gracenotes?.
That seems to be the issue as you pointed out.
I found some threads regarding this issue, but they are not directly linked since they were NA units, or upgrades from 3.4 to a newer build.
Let’s wait for the experts.
Also, I think I had read somewhere that after you install your system without gracenotes, you could actually install them afterwards separately.
Finally, do not force install methods unless you know what you are doing.
Which tutorial did you follow?.
I was able to successfully complete the installation while waiting for the response. Here is what I’ve done…
Because the problem was suspected to be the gracenotes, and from my reading that this file is often omitted to allow space for bigger update files, I have decided to try to install without it. This was simply done by removing the installation command for gracenote in the reformat.lst file, and I have also remove the gracenote file from the USB for just in case.
The installation when through smoothly, with the App and Voice gz files installed, and ended with a green screen telling me it is safe to remove the USB drive. I have reset to factory default after it rebooted, and tried all the device connections without any problems. Seems it is all okay now.
Now I am not sure what I am missing from not installing the gracenotes, but please let me know if there are any potential issues with what I have done.
Thanks for your note. I will try to dig through the forum to see if there are any instructions or issues with installing gracenotes afterwards. I would like to have them if I can, although not sure what are the benefits. Ha.
Gracenotes is basically art work for the media player, for instance if you are playing back some USB songs without album art, maybe gracenotes will show something nice.
Not essential, as you can see…
Please, read these topics:
The first one is the tutorial to manually add gracenotes after a successful upgrade, and the other one is a “context” to the previous tutorial.
