Getting red screen and error update packages not found

Hi you wonderful forum members. I’ve updated my Ford Escape 2017 to the latest sync3 update and everything seemed OK, except I’ve lost climate controls on the LCD. So, idiotically I assumed it’s best to downgrade and I downgraded to one of previous versions. Mid way though the updating, I remember there was a prompt message about some packages missing.

Now, I get red screen ERROR UPDATE PACKAGES NOT FOUND… and it’s counting seconds… I used this USB key numerous times without any trouble, just checked its integrity on my PC, and all seems fine.

Can someone please assist this idiot because right now I can’t downgrade, I can’t upgrade… stuck on that red screen. I also have last two log files here as text files, but not sure if that can help any.

I am using Windows app Syn3Updater and let the app download and create USB key for me. Nothing works

I am desperate at this point. Thank you all for your help in advance!

Don’t worry, it’s recoverable.

Use an alternative usb, recreate it from scratch using the app, review the log carefully once it completes and ensure it fully validates. If it doesn’t, post your log up.

Can you please lead me what package do I have to pick and should I go with AUTODETECT or AUTOINSTALL, I am completely lost at this point

If you are installing maps, 8gb is not sufficient.

Just follow the applications instructions in automatic mode, leave all as default.

I just tried and I have log file here, but not sure how to post it. I use COPY/PASTE from the page generated, but when I paste it here, it give me some formatting errors or something like that. I did automatic mode, as I did the first time when updating to the latest package, but when I put the key in my car’s USB port (nothing else is plugged anywhere), I still see that red screen. It looks like it does not want to start updating process no matter what I do. Is there any way, to reformat everything and let my USB key reinstalls everything from scratch?

At this point I really don’t know what to do anymore. If I want to post that LOG file, do I have to put it inside the blockquotes or Performatted text?

Just review the log, and post up the first block of text and the last few lines, or PM it to me. Many users do it without issue.

Are you installing with maps? If so I can tell you now the usb drive is too small, get a larger one

I have 16 Gb and that’s the one I always used. I just checked the integrity of the USB key and it’s perfectly fine. The other one that I said, the only other one I have is 8 Gb, and that I can’t use since I do have Maps. Well, at least I had maps (the latest release) before I screwed up everything.

You’ve selected forced autoinstall mode when you need reformat.

Exit the tool, enter in your config: current mode 3.2.10000 and new version as the 3.4 one you want, dont do a forced autoinstall

Why are you forcing the install mode to AutoInstall? if you are at the “reformat tool” you need to make sure it’s in “REFORMAT” mode

use this reformat.lst , put it in the root of the USB drive
reformat.lst (695 Bytes)

EDIT: louage beat me to it, but you can skip this and just use the reformat.lst attached

Dumb question but you don’t have another USB device or SD Card or anything plugged in do you?

No, nothing else is plugged. I only have one more USB plug in glove compartment and there is nothing connected to it.

This is what I just did… I closed Syn3updater and restarted it. As per Louage’s advice, I set my current Full Sync Version to 3.2.10000, SYNC Region to North America & Canada, Navigation set to ON.

Install Mode: REFORMAT
Application Release Type: RELEASE

Then for new sync version, I picked North America & Canada for Region, Version: Sync 3.4.20282, Map Version: 1.19 (2019) - NA

EDIT: so, what I wonder now… what is the normal procedure for this reformat now? I know car engine should run while this is being done… but as soon as I open my car door, my screen turns on, and there is that red screen with error message. Do I simply plug this newly created USB key, or should I do it somehow differently?

Everything is fine this end, the issue is with either the car usb port, your USB drive or something else is connected, are you sure you only have 1 USB port? most cars have more than 1 now a days…

me and @Louage are UK based and it’s late now so we won’t be able to assist further tonight. you can use the smaller USB without maps as a possible way of getting the APIM working again, failing that maybe F150 Chief will be on the forum as he is US based. if not we will try to assist further tomorrow.

EDIT: some times you have to use a specific USB port for this process, further making me wonder if you have 2 USB ports.

EDIT2: sorry i mis read that, you have 2 USB ports, one in the glove compartment. in that case i would suggest trying another USB

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I have two USB ports. One is inside that glove compartment right next to my seat. Nothing is plugged into that one. The other one is at the front, right under my climate control panel.

EDIT: Also, just a quick one… regarding my question on how do I proceed with installation now? As soon as I open my car door, that red screen turns on. Do I simply plug my USB in and turn the engine on?

yes, it will read the contents of the reformat.lst and process the update, just ensure that the install mode is “REFORMAT” in Sync Updater, don’t panic i’m sure it’s fixable but we may need another USB for whatever reason. some USB’s just simply do not like the car upgrades.

Just posting back… system/forum would not allow me to post anything before 21/22 hours has passed. It’s because I am a new member and there is a restriction on how many posts one can make the first day. It’s little disheartenning since there could always be quite a number of people with some problems, and they need to post in order to explain their problem.

Anyway, all is finally good with my Ford Escape 2017. USB key is in perfect condition, absolutely nothing wrong with it, USB ports in my car are in perfect working condition… REFORMAT went without a single problem. The problem (isn’t it almost always) was with me. I was foolishly trying to go with AUTOINSTALL, and it would never work. As soon as I went with REFORMAT, installation started no problems. With NA maps, and every single other offered package, everything installed just under 25 minutes. Reformat is also nice since you can actually see the progress bar moving, instead of sitting in the dark with no indication if everything is still moving forward, or if it’s stuck.

One question if I may… I’ve noticed Climate Control is gone in this release (latest one as of now). I used to have it on screen, and even though it was somewhat buggy (is that why they removed it in this update?), I liked it inside my options. In previous versions, I said it was buggy is because… for example, indicator for linked both sides temperature control would show it’s linked, so one knob controls both sides… but it was actually reversed. If it shows it’s linked, then they worked separately, if I disable linked control, then I can control both sides of the car with only the knob on driver’s side.

Thank you all for helping with this. I was pulling my hair out at one point.

Great to know that it worked! But when I updated my 2020 with the ford update, my gracenote version updated to NA-0020.
