No, nothing else is plugged. I only have one more USB plug in glove compartment and there is nothing connected to it.

This is what I just did… I closed Syn3updater and restarted it. As per Louage’s advice, I set my current Full Sync Version to 3.2.10000, SYNC Region to North America & Canada, Navigation set to ON.

Install Mode: REFORMAT
Application Release Type: RELEASE

Then for new sync version, I picked North America & Canada for Region, Version: Sync 3.4.20282, Map Version: 1.19 (2019) - NA

EDIT: so, what I wonder now… what is the normal procedure for this reformat now? I know car engine should run while this is being done… but as soon as I open my car door, my screen turns on, and there is that red screen with error message. Do I simply plug this newly created USB key, or should I do it somehow differently?

Everything is fine this end, the issue is with either the car usb port, your USB drive or something else is connected, are you sure you only have 1 USB port? most cars have more than 1 now a days…

me and @Louage are UK based and it’s late now so we won’t be able to assist further tonight. you can use the smaller USB without maps as a possible way of getting the APIM working again, failing that maybe F150 Chief will be on the forum as he is US based. if not we will try to assist further tomorrow.

EDIT: some times you have to use a specific USB port for this process, further making me wonder if you have 2 USB ports.

EDIT2: sorry i mis read that, you have 2 USB ports, one in the glove compartment. in that case i would suggest trying another USB

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, I have two USB ports. One is inside that glove compartment right next to my seat. Nothing is plugged into that one. The other one is at the front, right under my climate control panel.

EDIT: Also, just a quick one… regarding my question on how do I proceed with installation now? As soon as I open my car door, that red screen turns on. Do I simply plug my USB in and turn the engine on?

yes, it will read the contents of the reformat.lst and process the update, just ensure that the install mode is “REFORMAT” in Sync Updater, don’t panic i’m sure it’s fixable but we may need another USB for whatever reason. some USB’s just simply do not like the car upgrades.

Just posting back… system/forum would not allow me to post anything before 21/22 hours has passed. It’s because I am a new member and there is a restriction on how many posts one can make the first day. It’s little disheartenning since there could always be quite a number of people with some problems, and they need to post in order to explain their problem.

Anyway, all is finally good with my Ford Escape 2017. USB key is in perfect condition, absolutely nothing wrong with it, USB ports in my car are in perfect working condition… REFORMAT went without a single problem. The problem (isn’t it almost always) was with me. I was foolishly trying to go with AUTOINSTALL, and it would never work. As soon as I went with REFORMAT, installation started no problems. With NA maps, and every single other offered package, everything installed just under 25 minutes. Reformat is also nice since you can actually see the progress bar moving, instead of sitting in the dark with no indication if everything is still moving forward, or if it’s stuck.

One question if I may… I’ve noticed Climate Control is gone in this release (latest one as of now). I used to have it on screen, and even though it was somewhat buggy (is that why they removed it in this update?), I liked it inside my options. In previous versions, I said it was buggy is because… for example, indicator for linked both sides temperature control would show it’s linked, so one knob controls both sides… but it was actually reversed. If it shows it’s linked, then they worked separately, if I disable linked control, then I can control both sides of the car with only the knob on driver’s side.

Thank you all for helping with this. I was pulling my hair out at one point.

Great to know that it worked! But when I updated my 2020 with the ford update, my gracenote version updated to NA-0020.

I was thinking to completely remove Gracenote, I will never use it anyway. I used the latest package, and I’m pretty sure it’s because this update is not even for Ford Escape 2020 (there is a message specifically mentioning not to use that update if you have 2020). I have Ford Escape 2017.

FYI, gracenotes is the album art that is a substitute to missing album art for example, if you’re using BT.

Mentioned in the Sync 3.4.20282 - Feedback & Issues thread, the climate control issue was a bug that was corrected in this version. Glad this all worked, thanks for updating the thread.

There is a new Gracenotes for NA, but so far only contained in the Ford update package.

Yes, I am aware, but that’s why I mentioned I wanted to uninstall it. Syn3updater allows completely uninstalling Gracenote. I don’t use that ever.

Sorry, you’ve lost me for a second… you mentioned Climate control is fixed in 3.4.20282, or did I understand this wrong? I don’t have climate control option on my latest update (3.4.20282). It’s not showing anywhere in options. The very first thing I did after the update, was master reset.

Again, I have Ford Escape 2017.

EDIT: so after reading that long thread, I’ve realized since I did not have it originally in this car, and it was introduced in one of the previous updates, although it was buggy… they removed it all together for this car now (Ford Escape 2017). Did I get it correct?

Just quick question, although this is for another thread probably. That auto engine on/off “feature”, is it possible at all to permanently disable it without using some hardware devices. I am driving this car for the last year and I can’t get used to constantly have to press the button if I want to turn that feature off. I hate it when I come to a stop at traffic light, and just after 5 seconds light turns green, traffic starts moving, and my car’s engine just turned off… not sure how good that is for a starter and other parts, but I’m guessing it will eventually take its toll on something. I am good with remembering things, but for some reason, I can’t remember to press this button every single time I start my car :frowning:

I used to have a VW Golf and on that you could trick the car voltage to make it be disabled, but i don’t know of any way on Ford, however it’s not something i have looked in to.

It is possible to disable it in the bcm (body control module) for at least some vehicles, but this is not a universal setting. I’d suggest you enquire on an Escape specific forum.

I know that if I keep my gear in “S” mode, that auto engine on/off never engages. Some people in some other forums suggested they always drive in “S” mode just because of that. Others are suggesting to plug in a trailer light tester, and leave it plugged in. That disables the feature since it’s designed not to engage if towing.

A lot of folks have disabled the Battery Management System (BMS) to disable the Auto Start/Stop system, probably not the best choice with the newer vehicles using AGM batteries using an active charge on demand system. There are several other solutions which involve bypassing or unplugging modules, etc. I would not recommend any of the above options. This leaves the dongle option, which is claimed to be safe and reliable. (I do not endorse these products.This is a personal decision on the method you choose to follow.)

I do not have Auto Start/Stop on my 2015 F-150, but my wife’s 2019 Lincoln Nautilus is equipped with Auto Start/Stop. I just use Sport Mode to disable Auto Start/Stop, and use Sport Mode in the truck mostly anyways. Works fine.
