Help black screen of Death 3.4

Help please sync 3.0 to 3.4 black screen

Hi all sorry seems only way I can post.

Everything went as planned up to the bit where it says remove usb but you dont. Then Black screen of death. USB lights were off but did the power and seak press and they came back on. I have ran Forscan and no DTC present. I have also reset the APIM via forscan. I can also access it and change settings if I wish.

Car is a 2017 ford Kuga

Can you gain physical access to the unit?
Are you the first owner of the car?
Has the unit ever been serviced?, maybe a screen replacement…

I would need to check the equivalencies, but L are MY20, so J should be 2018… Does not initially seem to be a MY20 unit, the APIM at least. Should double check they.

Well this does not look good…
If you can get access to the unit, take a photo of the labels on both the unit itself (APIM) and the screen.

If it’s a replacement unit, may contain MY20/+ hardware which the reformat “killed”.

As far as I know Syn3Updater has no real way of knowing which hardware the user has. I mean yes, if the APIM’s serial start with L it’s MY20, but there are a lot of grey areas that can’t be covered.

That’s why there’s a big red warning about MY20 that the user has to accept before moving forward.

Also, the log shows “My20 Protection Enabled: Auto-Detect”, which I do not think it’s enabled or enforced.

What theme were you running on Sync 3.0?
What changes have been made with FORScan?

Good point, I’ve assumed the unit was not operative since according to what he said he didn’t complete the process or entered the reformat phase.

Only changes made in Forscan is Auto door lock after 10mph
Theme, standard wasn’t even aware I could change it.

Thank you for the images.

Sadly, this confirms that even though your apim is a J series (J is for 2018), it’s been manufactured in late 2020, so this looks like a case of MY20 hardware under a 2018 series. This looks like a replacement unit order placed by Ford.

The screen looks original though, so I suspect the APIM is the culprit here.

New MY20 APIMs are not compatible with the reformat tool, something about the eMMC memory if I’m not mistaken. If so, that’s what killed it.

Let’s wait if others has something else to add, I think you need to get the APIM replaced and should be good.
