Navigation malfunction after upgrade from 3.0 Build 23219 to 3.4 Build 23188

Hello,
I did succesful SYNC 3 update from 3.0 Build 23219 to the latest 3.4 Build 23188.
However, I probably forgot to mark that the unit has navigaion and now(after the upgrade) I see an error “Navigation malfunction …” and no map appears.
How to fix this?

You need to downgrade the Sync app to Sync 3.3.19052 to run the reformat tool. The mode should indicate “Downgrade”. The Syn3 Updater should do this automatically.

Hi, thanks for the instructions.
So my autoinstall file looks like this:

When I open it with “Syn3Updater.exe” it opens the updater.
Here I have to select 3.3 and run Download, right? I can overwrite the same USB, right?

The updater should have everything on it’s own. If you do this you will overwrite all the files on the USB.

Place the -AN file in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB. Use the autoinstall.lst file you show in the pic, placed in the root of the USB, along with your reformat.lst file.

You can now drag and drop images into the editor window…

Now:
When I open autoinstall.lst or “reformat.lst” with “Launcher” I see this:

When I open autoinstall.lst or “reformat.lst” with “Sync3Updater” I see just CMD popping for a sec and then nothing.

I am really trying to figure out what I do wrong, but I can not.
I really appreciate your patience, could you figure out what I do wrong?

You do not need to open those files, they are scripts for the installation. The links are auto generated by the website for the help on the subject.

Place the -AN file in the SyncMyRide folder on the USB.
You did that.

Use the autoinstall.lst file you show in the pic, placed in the root of the USB, along with your reformat.lst file.

The autoinstall.lst file should be this…

All of the files should be in the SyncMyRide folder.

Once you have all the files on the USB, go to the car and start it, then insert the USB. The whole process will be about an hour.

DO NOT remove the USB until you see a solid GREEN screen telling you to do so. Any key cycle notifications you will ignore.

Installation Instructions

NOTES:

This installation consists of multiple reboots, through which the vehicle ignition must remain on during the process. It is advised to either drive the vehicle or place the vehicle on a battery charger for the duration of the process. If for some reason the process is interrupted because the vehicle shut down, just start the process over, it will resume.
DO NOT REMOVE THE USB UNTIL THE ENTIRE PROCESS HAS COMPLETED. The process may take over 30 minutes.

Place the vehicle ignition on, as outlined above.
Remove all usb devices and usb connected phones from the system. Bluetooth connections are safe.
Insert USB drive created above.
If your present Sync version is 3.3.19052, the reformat tool will run immediately and reboot the system into the reformat mode.
If your present Sync version is 3.4, the procedure will remove Gracenotes and downgrade first, then reboot into Sync 3.3.19052. DO NOT remove the USB or key cycle the ignition. Let the process continue.
When the reformat tool loads after the reboot, you will see various Mustang backgrounds cycle on the screen with a progress bar. The progress bar may seem to freeze occasionally, this is normal.

Wait for the installation to complete. This may take more than 30 minutes.

Remove the USB at the message on the screen as shown below. The system will automatically reboot after the reformat and installation of the files.

Once the installation is complete and the APIM has rebooted, navigate to the ‘About Sync’ screen under ‘Settings’ and verify the successful installation. Check the Navigation and wait for the maps to completely load. This might still take a few minutes, depending on the APIM model.
Do not connect USB devices at this point.
Proceed to the Master Reset.

Master Reset Required

Once the Sync system seems stable and the maps are loaded, perform a ‘Master Reset’. Once the reset is finished and the system has rebooted, you can now re-pair your phones and make other adjustments. Once this process is complete and the latest App, Voice, and Gracenotes versions have been installed, you can run the Apim Interrogator Utility thru the Syn3 Updater or manually to verify the installation of all the files if desired.

That is not right. Take the autoinstall and reformat files along with the DONOTINDEX file and place them in the root of the USB, not in the SyncMyRide folder.

The process is starting, but I am getting: "“Installation failed. Error code: PKG_ERR04. Download files again and retry to install”
Then I tried again with fresh download of 4U5T-14G381-AN_1552583626000.TAR.GZ, but got the same error.

What could be the issue now?

Out of curiosity, when you set up syncupdater to prepare your USB drive, what original and target versions did you select?

It looks like you have version 3.0.23219 as the previous configuration and the target configuration version 3.4.23188.

You should have version 3.4.23188 for both precious version and target version (with maps) and then .ake the USB drive.

Thanks for your contribution.
My current version in the car is 3.4.23188(with Nav not installed/properly).
I am following the instructions F150Chief and using autoinstall file he has suggested.
Maybe its best waiting for his opinion before trying your suggestion.
I am afraid not to ruin totally the Sync.

Understand. I think because you did not set up your attempt to add navigation, syncupdater did not properly configure the USB drive correctly which is likely causing your dismay. What is likely blacklisted is the reformat program because Ford prevents reformatting after certain version of SYNC3.

If you set it up syncupdater correctly, then the install will downgrade your SYNC3 to a version that allows the reformat portion to work, reformat the SYNC3 , then install version 3.4.23188 with nav.

Try downgrading the Sync version to 3.3.19052 only. This will be an autoinstall process with only the -AN file, no others than the autoinstall in the root directory of the USB. Just choose this in the Syn3 Updater to downgrade the Sync version.

PKG_ERR03 – Error is PKG_UNTAR_FAILURE

Either your file is bad or there is no space on the APIM to unpack the file.

Run the Interrogator Utility and post the resulting XML file here.
