Navigation settings don't load if car hasn't been driven in a while

I updated my Sync 3 to version 3.4 Build 23088 with Maps NA 2.22 about 6 months ago and have had no issues until recently. About a month ago, when I start the car the navigation system comes up with default settings. It does not have any of my saved destinations and does not have any of my preferences. If I reboot by turning off the car and opening the driver door and then restarting the car everything loads correctly. This seems to only happen if the car hasn’t been driven for a while such as the first time I start the car that day. I haven’t yet tried connecting it to a computer to it to see if there are any errors being logged.
Has anyone else had this issue or have a solution or suggestions?

You need to get out of that build since it’s bugged.
Your rwdata partition is most likely full.

If it’s true, maybe the unit is just bad…

It’s a genuine Ford APIM purchased off of Amazon from China. This is the first issue I’ve ever had with it. I’m guessing the rwdata partition is full, so I’m going to try going down that path to try to resolve the issue.

There are some words that should not be combined in a sentence like that…

Try the methods described, but you can’t trust what comes from China…

If you are willing to unmount the unit to check the sticker, we could tell if there is something odd about the unit by taking a look…

It’s not worth my effort to pull it out though. When I installed it everything on it looked legit. I assumed it must have been a dropped unit that they guy in China tested and resold. It had no physical damage and all the stickers appeared original.
The rwdata partition issue seems like the most likely cause, so I’ll try fixing that this weekend when I have some time.

More likely you’re running into the RWDATA partition filing up and not saving your last settings , the bug was introduced with .22251.
As stated above going to .23188 with the cleaner utility should fix the problem.

Problem with APIMs out of China that have NAV is that you’re never quite sure what it started life as, I’ve seen some that have the extra needed storage added by replacing the chip and others with a little circuit board added…

First thing to look at on an APIM is always the sticker, most of the re-labled ones I see have the wrong barcode or font on them and the label is slightly “off”.
Just go out to eBay, and look at the APIM unit labels when you exclude China to see what one should look like.

I tried clearing out the RWDATA last weekend, but the issue still came up after the car sat unused for over 24 hours. I just installed Build 23188. I should know if that worked or not sometime next week. I appreciate the suggestions.

It looks like I didn’t take any photos of the unit before I installed it, but when I received it I did look it over well and didn’t notice anything obviously off with it. The label on it looked right. (no obvious typos, didn’t look like it was removed and reattached, etc.) The only thing I noticed was it was an older unit, one of the first Sync 3 APIMs. Either way, the bug is pretty minor and I certainly wouldn’t swap back to my SYNC 2 APIM over it and it’s not worth my time or effort to rip apart the dash to get pictures of it now.

So, assuming you stayed on 3.4.23088 after cleaning the RWDATA partition, issue reappeared.
That’s good to keep in mind in the future.

Can you create and run an interrogator log against the unit and share the .XML file?. You can redact the VIN from the file’s name and content (you can edit it with any text editor, like notepad). Now that you are on 23188 there should not be any issue with the rwdata partition, the log will show that as well.
If issue happens again under these conditions, then there’s something else at play.

If I had to say something, I would say that it’s hard to find fake “older” APIMs, they ones that are surfacing nowadays are trying to pretend to be more “current” models…
I assume you are talking about a G or H series APIM.

Fair enough, but if you run the interrogator log it will also tell us what the APIM is.

I had tried doing a soft reset, but the problem still came up. I did a master reset yesterday, which I was hoping to avoid because now I have to reprogram everything the way I had it, but it will be a few days before I can verify the issue is fixed.

So did the master reset appear to fix the issue and you are just now keeping an eye on it to see if it remains ‘fixed’?

The issue (no saved navigation settings or locations loaded) only happens when the car sits unused for over 24 hours, so I have to wait until the next time the car sits and see if it happens when I start it up. I should know if it worked by next weekend.

Please run the Interrogator Utility and create a log we can view to determine if the unit has issues.
