No android auto and says "USB hubs are not supported " after updating from SYNC 3 Version 1 to Version 3.4`

I got a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost 2016 (Manufactured in 01/2016 Non Navigation) few days back and I got to know that it supports AA and CP but in order to activate that I need update my software as it was available from SYNC 3 version 2 onwards. Before Updating to latest version 3.4 Build 23188 it had version 1.0 build 15139. It updated and it works flawlessly but there is still no trace of android auto and whenever I start the vehicle it says “USB hubs not supported”. I am not sure what to do now and my research says its either of the problems-

  1. I should have updated my system from Sync 3 version 1 to 2 and then to 3.4 in order to access android auto which i messed.

  2. I need to upgrade my usb hub as it’s an 2016 model. I opened the usb hub and this is the part number- GR3T-14F014-AB.

I am not sure what’s the problem, here is the link to amazon for the updated usb hub but I looked into cyanlabs and found that my existing usb hub should support AA and to access carplay I need this hub but I’m not sure what to do. Amazon.com

I have formatted my USB and it does not have log output anymore, any ideas what to do now ? Will upgrading my usb hub to HU5Z-19A387-C will fix my issue ?

Thank you and your help would be greatly appriciated.

Have you master reset?, I would assume yes.

If so, your only option at the moment is to get a proper hub to see if that changes things. You will find information here Media Hub, CarPlay Compatible - 2015-2020 Ford/Lincoln - SYNC 3

I know the title says those are for CP, but we had a few cases in which users only got AA to work after replacing the hub…

If that does not work and nothing else should be preventing android auto execution (bad cable, bad configuration on the phone and such things), then maybe your issue is skipping 2.2.17xxx, go which there’s no solution since you can’t go back to that build.

The GR3T part number you show is for an early 2016 Focus, the HUBs that supported CP & AA are H series in Ford.
Make sure you get a true Ford, I’d shy away from some of the Amazon ones.
And contrary to some of the ads, the USB C/USB A ones that they list “for Sync 3.4” seem to also be reliant on what series APIM is being used not just the Sync version.

I just installed the new usb hub and AA and CP is working now seamlessly ! Thank you
