No Apple CarPlay after upgrading to Sync 3.4 – am I missing something?

Hey everyone,

I’m a bit confused and hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a 2016 Ford Focus Titanium Hatchback. It originally came with Sync 3 version 1.0 and did not have Apple CarPlay. I recently upgraded to Sync 3.4, and the update went smoothly—everything works great except Apple CarPlay still isn’t available.

I was under the impression that upgrading to 3.4 would enable CarPlay compatibility, but maybe I’m missing a step or requirement? Is there a separate installation needed for CarPlay? Do I need to install new hardware, or is this something I can activate myself?

I feel like I did everything right, but I’m clearly overlooking something. This community has been amazing, so thank you all in advance for any help or insight you can offer!

Hello.

Does a message about incompatible hub appear? Have you tried with android auto?.
Have you performed a master reset?.

Since your vehicle is 2016, you would need to upgrade the USB hub as well.

Take a look at this guide → Media Hub, CarPlay Compatible - 2015-2020 Ford/Lincoln - SYNC 3

There’s the problem…
