Question regarding what APIM's are NAV & NON-NAV

Hello all. I have a question regarding what APIM’s are NAV & NON-NAV. I read that all NAV APIMS have a C in the last part of the part number. I also heard that if it has a blue connector it is NAV. Unit is for a 2020 Ford F150 XL that did not have NAV. Previous APIM/Screen was 4.2, SYNC3, non nav. I upgraded to the Current APIM is KL3T-14G370-PBH. Looking at purchasing APIM LL3T-14G370-MFH, said to have NAV, but Chinese Maps. Reason for looking for another APIM is that Current does not display any preset details or even set presets. I upgraded the Current APIM to 3.4, latest build, etc. to no resolution. Any input from here, or possibly another resource to ask would be appreciated. TIA.

SYNC 3 - CyanLabs
As far as the connector color, it has no relevance. And there are three letters at the end of the part number. You will see in the databased there is no consistency to this.

This is a 2020 APIM which cannot be reformatted. Doing so will brick the unit. You cannot change the maps.

Your current KL3T-14G370-PBH APIM (NON-NAV) probably just needs to have asbuilt adjustments to the APIM and ACM units. Upgrading from the 4" Sync to the 8" Sync hardware is not as simple as dumping the old asbuilt into the newer 8" unit. (Some folks will tell you that works…)

If you run the APIM Interrogator and create a log file I would be happy to review it.

Chief,
Here is the log. I appreciate the assist.

And here is to hoping.

Tom

Se your messages…I need the VIN.

Sent. thank you,

Based on the VIN and the original configuration, your present APIM asbuilt has several errors which will disable some functionality, like the FordPass modem, etc.

Since you do not have NAV, load the original asbuilt attached here, perform a master reset of the APIM, and test for functionality.

OK, so I am VERY new to this. Will I need Forscan, and the adapter to perform this? I have neither

I am also going to get the correct USB/USB-C Hub so I can use CarPlay. Will this impact anything?

AND Thank you. AGAIN.

Yes, you will need FORScan and a good adapter.

FORScan for Windows v2.3.48
FORScan Tutorial Links - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community
FORScan Supported Adapters, Protocols, and Platforms - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community
Updating Firmware and Initial Setup – OBDLink EX in FORScan - Ford / Information - CyanLabs Official Community

The hub will not affect anything, however, do not expect fast charging rates as the Ford hubs do not support fast charging.

Thank you. I just ordered the OBDLink EX FORScan OBD Adapter and DL FORScan. Will follow the tutorials. This should be fun. I DL the original asbuilt from the Ford site so I have a clean starting point. I assume the asbuilt is different than the SYNC# 3.4 upgrade as well, correct. I guess the order would be install correct asbuilt, then correcty with values supplied, then upgrade back to 3.4?

The asbuilt is not the Sync software, it is like the settings for the OS. You do not need to change the Sync 3.4 software.

There are 3 separate “layers” to the Sync OS:
Software, which is the Sync versions like 3.4, etc.
Firmware, which is the strategy and calibration files that define the operation and features for the APIM.
The “asbuilt” data, which is the settings for the software vs the firmware.

What you will do is load the original asbuilt data into the APIM to see if the features work properly. With the current unit installed in the vehicle, there are several errors that are turning off features available in the original asbuilt data. Restoring the original data will probably fix the issues.
