Dear colleagues, I finally decided to update my 2018 Ford Smax. Everything has gone smoothly in the beginning, unless a problem appears later. Following the instructions on the portal I have updated from 3.0.20204 to 3.4.21020, the only problem has been that it has taken almost an hour, it gives you a little scare, jejejejeje

Setting themes and splash screens thru the test menu will just return to your programmed asbuilt values on reboot/power cycle. You can change you themes permanently using FORScan.

That’s what I thought…

That’s what would happen when I changed the theme in the test menu on 3.0.

But yesterday when I applied the ST theme, a power cycle of the vehicle did not revert the values.

I forgot to mention that in my previous post.

The only thing that worked for me was to do the soft reboot using the stereo power button and next track button.

Doing that reverted everything back to the original theme.

Now that I know I can do that to revert back, I want to try some of the other themes just out of curiosity, but I gave myself a good scare yesterday haha, so not sure if I want to try again any time soon.

But knowing me, I’ll be back in there in a few days messing with things…

I wouldn’t advise using an official “owner package” download for any other vehicle other than the one specified by the provided VIN. While it should work, there are a bunch of other packages inside the zip that check for other things such as hardware and software compatibility.

Using the Syn3Updater program is more reliable as it doesn’t utilize those hardware/software checks and is made generic for any vehicle.

Did the vehicle actually power down? Just shutting it off and turning it back on sometimes is not enough time for the APIM to power down completely. Sometimes it takes a minute or more for the vehicle to fully shut down. A good sign is to look at the speedometer/tach and wait for the needles to cycle downward, about 30 seconds or more after the ignition is shut off. (Not all cars will do this, but most from 2015 on will.)

Yeah, I shut the vehicle off, then opened and closed the door a couple of times to ensure it fully powered down the head unit.

I played around with the themes again yesterday, and tried a “Raptor” one.

It only changed the splash screen image, but it also caused quirky issues with the home button on the top left hand side.

It would overlay the 911 assist “*” symbol overtop, and I couldn’t use the home button.

I reverted back to the regular theme, but the Raptor splash screen stuck.

I just think there are some quirks with the version of 3.4 I have and the themes in the test menu.

I’ve decided not to play around with them anymore, at least until the curiosity cat comes back for another round… I think it’s down to 5 lives at this point, haha.

You can upgrade to the latest 3.4.21020 via Syn3Updater without issues. It’s the version rolling out to vehicles globally now.

Updated my 2016 Mustang without any issues, however radio station logos don’t match the radio stations - any ideas how to fix that?

Are you located in the US, or another country…The flag does not match. If in another country with a US car, This is to be expected. If in the US, perform a master reset, then if SiriusXM equipped, send a refresh signal to the Sirius radio in the car from the XM website. For the FM logos, Ford hardware does not support this for the model year until 2019+ for NA vehicles.

I do have a US car and I’m located in Poland but I’ve flashed European software and maps (changed all necessary AB data) and everything except for the logos works great (navigation, voice commands etc). I think I’m getting maybe Italian? logos. I’m talking about the FM logos

Enable it with ForScan, it was never supposed to be added by upgrading, that was a bug in Ford’s code.

Anyone know if the screen flicker @ dusk & dawn has been addressed in any of the later versions as the flickering is still there even if changed to day or nigth rather than auto ?

Ok, here’s a weird one… when I turn on heated passenger’s seat, the back rest heats up fine but the seat starts to cool. Used to work fine before the update so maybe it’s somehow related? The driver’s seat works fine.

If you are talking about when the outside light hits a particular threshold and auto dim starts flickering, then no. I believe that has to do with the light sensor itself and not Sync.
