Sync 3.4 Not Updating With USB

I apologize upfront for my ignorance and the length of this post.

I updated to 3.4 sometime last year. I have been having some issues recently on startup where the radio will go to AM and screen will change from the Night setting to Day. I always run the Night look.

So I did a bunch of Google searching but didn’t come up with anything. I was under the impression that maybe my unit did an auto update because a few things looked a bit different since these issues started.

I decided to see if there was a newer version of 3.4 that I could install and per the Syn3Update there is so I loaded it onto a clean thumb drive.

My current version is 3.4.22251 and I tried installing 3.4.23188 but when I plug the thumb drive into the USB port in the truck nothing happens except for at the top of the screen it says Updating Software or something like that that’s in, nothing else happens and nothing actually updates.

I hope you experts can help me out and steer me in the right direction.

2017 F150 no Nav.

Thanks

I don't know how to.

Hello.

You need to get out of that build. Follow this guide for possible solutions → APIM Sync Settings Not Saving, VER_ERR08 Errors, Cannot Perform Master Reset or Upgrades/Updates (Solved)

If none of those work, we do not have anything else to recommend at the moment.

It’s also worth reading Tutorial: Sync 3.4 NON-NAV APIM: Failure to Update to Newer Version Sync 3.4 , since no navs system may requiere a little extra step due to storage constrains.

But first, you must ensure the rwdata partition is not full…

I used Syn3 Updater to create a RW Data Cleaner USB and inserted into my truck’s USB and completed the process.

After the process above was completed I tried to install the latest Sync update and I still get the same message on top the the screen, “Updating System Software…” but nothing happens or updates.

I’m not super tech savvy so if you have some directions and a fix for someone like me please share,

Everything is well documented in those links.
If you ran the rwdata partition cleaner, then create and run an interrogator log to see:

  • that the rwdata partition is actually not full
  • how much free space hte APIM has (as described in the 2nd link)

You need at least 1.7 GB free space for an upgrade to process.

I ran the interrogator log and came up with this…

Partition Type = Free / Total
/fs/Nuance/ = 3.2M / 465M
/fs/Nuance/grace = 5.8M / 775M
/fs/rwdata/ = 1007M / 1.2G
/fs/rwdata/quip/ = 35M / 35M
/fs/rwdata/quip/ = 90M / 90M
/fs/mp/ = 84M / 1.4G
/fs/images/ = 1.7G / 3.0G

and this… APIM Free Space: 1.7G

SaNdMN,

Thank you for the information. Do you have any experience with this same issue as in has it happened to you? I’ve tried everything and nothing works. It kind of sucks that I am on a Sync version with known issues. If I would have known this upfront I would have never upgraded. Just not worth it.

How long have you waited for it to update and did you have the engine running with the idle limit disabled?

Roughly 30 min or so each time and it never updated down graded when tried that too.

Key was on the run position with a battery charger hooked up. We had an ice storm yesterday so I stayed in the warm garage with the door shut.

What is disabling the idle limit? Never heard of that.

I’m still running 3.0, so no. But if you think you are the first one to encounter this issue, you are mistaken. You are not the first, all solutions are well documented and people were able to move on (most of the times at least).

That does not tell me anything, it’s just a “it does not work” with not meaningful troubleshooting information.

So describe what you have done, provide the log for the installation you are trying to perform, as long as a new interrogator log.

Many Fords shut down after the engine has been idling for 30 minutes.
This can be disabled in the dash menu to keep the car idling during a long sync update.
