I just bought a 2016 F150 Lariat. To me, a very fancy truck. Which is why i ASSUMED it had nav and just checked that box when I was getting ready for cyanlabs update. When the update completed, I could see that indeed I was now running 3.4. But, the home screen, with the nav box on the left, shows navigation fault. Everyting else works, but when i tried to click Nav from the bottom choices it says I should visit the dealer. I am thinking that maybe the vehicle didn’t actually have nav??.. Dumb me. Wondering what the best course of action would be? I started with 1.0.15139, but i followed advice from anothet thread where i manually did two updates first (2016 Mustang Sync3 1.0 updated to 3.0 and no Apple Carplay! - #9 by fwkk0094)
SYNC Region: NA
Navigation Variant: Non Nav
Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20
Install Type: OEM
Old SYNC Version: 1.0.15139
New SYNC Version: 3.4.26057
Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
The only error I get is that USB hubs are not supported and to remove. (there are no usb’s inserted)
Few things here, 1st you have to replace the media hub with an H series, G series aren’t supported on 3.4.x (not to mention the G series doesn’t fully support AA and doesn’t support CP at all).
If you had NAV, you would have had the block on the left side instead of having the compass in the upper right.
The only way a non-NAV APIM shows the map block on the screen is if someone has changed the AB config with ForScan 7D0-01-02 x0xx xxxx no NAV 7D0-01-02 x2xx xxxx NAV
Run the interrogator log, confirm the unit is NAV (which 95% it’s) and re-do the install… configure syn3updater correctly this time → Basic Usage - CyanLabs
Thanks. So, I tried to run the interrogator and it didn’t work. For a split second I see the updating banner at the top, then I get message “Installation Failed Error Code: PKG_ERR04”
Wonder if i can skip the interrogator and go straight to redoing the install? I guess in the previous one I forgot to check that i have nav??? It’s possible!
Then again, is it normal to be getting the message about needing to unplug USB hubs?
I had read one of your old posts where you said it is not necessary to put my APIM model number. Otherwise, i just followed the instructed. Created the USB, stuck it in, and then got the error message. I’m confident it’s not 2020+ and has never been swapped. I came in with 1.0.15139 which, as far as I’m aware, is the original version for the truck.
Is the issue that now the physical usb hub needs to be upgraded to even take the USB to run the interrogator?
Hard to say, this is extremely easy and well documentated… and yet…
And why are you reading that?, the only thing you need to read is the instructions I sent before… What has the APIM model have to do with running the interrogator log?.
If you had, it would have run… what’s your current Sync3 build in Syn3updater’s configuration?
So what version is showing on the screen now and did you do a master reset after your original update with Ford?
Probably your best course of action is to instal the new hub to accept AA properly and Carplay and then try a Cyanlabs update using your current version shown as your previous configuration and include Nav..
If all goes well ensure you do a master reset after the upload.
I was reading the previous post because someone else had the same error message when trying to the interrogation, and ironically (or not) they were thinking perhaps the reason was the lack of apim model number. To which you said that was not the cause, but no cause was ever given for that person’s error, just that the instructions were not followed. As far as I know I followed the instructions (same as what the previous person said).
I’m still not following what I’m missing.
If it’s true that the USB hub no longer can read usbs because of the update then that means I cannot do anything until I physically change the hub… So, that alone may be why I cannot run the interrogation. But, it would also mean I cannot update or downgrade or do anything to the software via a USB stick.
I am not sure if the hub is the cause of my issues or something else.
Current showing 3.4.26057. I couldn’t do an update using the Ford method. Not sure why but it just stayed on updating software for hours.
I can’t recall if I did a master reset before or after I tried doing the ford update, but I have not done one since doing the cysnlabs update. Should I?
It would be ideal if you could instal the hub prior to doing anything else.
You didn’t include the maps in your Cyanlabs update as mentioned by @SaNdMaN so perhaps you could try and instal the maps only and then do a master reset after if your 3.4.26057 software is working ok.
Otherwise if you have issues try installing them both together again using 3.4.26057 as your previous configuration and ensuring you do a master reset later (motor or ignition on).
So, for your last point, can I install an update with the hub issue? It seems that I cannot interface via usb at all right now. Just going by what I’m reading here.
Getting a hub is easier said than done. I’m seeing delivery times into December.
So perhaps mid November I can get a new hub installed.
I’m in this situation because I had a APIM issue (screen going black and needing hard reset). The Ford update wouldn’t work. So if rather just buy a new vin matched apim than spend almost the same money on a hub
Hubs are much cheaper than APIMs. A new hub from Ford is cheaper than a used APIM. APIMs are not VIN matched. Be careful buying used APIM so that you are not getting a Chinese clone.
Most on ebay and Amazon are fake Chinese ones. I would just goto a dealership and get one.
About a year ago a guy on here went to a dealership and bought what he thought was an OEM hub. When he took it out of the box he found someone had already swapped the clone with the OEM one and returned the clone. Moral of the story is the fake ones are crap so becareful where you buy them. Amazon and Aliexpress are probally the worst places for clones.
