2016 F150 - Sync3 V1.0 want to update. verify steps

Hello! Thanks for the help, just wanted to verify my steps before i attempt so i dont end up bricking anything.
trying to update my sync3 v1.0 Build 15139 to a higher version so i can get carplay working. usb is carplay compatible.
as i understand - i need to follow this:

Question - the first file - 2.2 = will install that version that activates carplay.
Then i need to flash again to the latest version?

Can i do the manual method outlined here for 2.2?
Then use the cyanlabs syncupdater3 to flash to the latest 3.4?

Truck is 2016 Ford f150 XLT.
has NAV
NorthAmerica - everything is OEM

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?
syn3updater - create upgrade 2.2 USB - tried that - got an error installing in vehicle - it popped up and i didnt grab it - this package is wrong or not compatible.. i can do it again if needed i suppose.

If you want to stay with Sync 3.0 versions, read through this…

For CarPlay you will need to change out the USB hub to a CP capable unit…

is there a different option than sync 3.0-?

if it were possible - after nearly a decade - i would leap at a chance to get away from anything sync related
Appreciate the help pointing me in the right direction.

the USB is a duaL slot usb that appears to check out on the carplay compatible page. so i think i just need to get the sync3 updated.

it sounded like you might have another option other than sync ?

You still need Sync in order to use CarPlay

Anything 3rd party like Android screens etc is pretty much a try at your own risk and pray the vendor has decent tech support.
