How long should interrigator take to run?

I just got a 2016 C-MAX SEL the current firmware is SYNC3 version 1.0.15139, I tried to update it with the ford USB stick and it only ever said “Updating System Software”. I tried wifi, to no avail. So I reset everything and tried Interrigator, and All I get is “Updating System Software”, left the car on for 20 min, never changes.

my nav map ver is NA 1 14 and gracenotes is 1.1.1.615 (NA-0010)

The auto update says 12/4/2015, wifi is connected and auto is on.

Any idea what I can do?

None trying to get

Personally, I’d forget the Ford official USB for the moment and old G series APIMs have a higher probability of not surviving an update with the updater to 3.4.x than say a newer J series (not to mention the fact that you’ll have to replace the USB media hub).

Use a GOOD quality USB (SanDisk, Lexar, PNY, etc), format it as exFat, then build a USB to update to v2.2 first.

And as always nothing else should be plugged into the other USB port.
After that finishes, do a master reset and then use what Ford offers for your VIN on the update site.

So is the update to v2.2 a custom one? On the syn3 updater software the oldest one I see is 3.3.19052

OK I see you have a link to a tgz, I guess thats a manual install, I will take a look at that thanks.

It’s a manual install and the autoinstall file is there as well.
This gives you an in place upgrade to the midpoint (3.0 2.2.x) where CP support was introduced, if you can’t get that to work odds are you’ll have issues with the updater.
The purpose of the updater is to get you on 3.4, it a higher risk item since the APIM gets reformatted as part of the process and one that’s done there’s no going back to any build of 3.0.

Thanks was out for the weekend, but finally got the interrogator to run, seems like it took along time, maybe I’ve got other issues?

I get this error on the Syn3updater:

Notice that the interrogator file could not read the strategy file in the APIM. This is due to a corrupted file, and the reason you cannot upgrade the APIM. The file in question is GB5T-14G374-AF.VBF. The GB5T-14G374-AF.VBF from Ford is broken and has bad addresses. Uploading strategy file GB5T-14G374-CD instead of GB5T-14G374-AF will repair the APIM. This must be done with FORScan paid version to support firmware uploads.

I have FORScan paid version on iPhone, let me know if this is not what i need, thank you very much for the help

You need to run ForScan 2.4 running on Windows or a Windows VM in order to do this, it cannot be done from a phone.

You will also need a USB OBD adapter. The suggested model from FORScan is the ScanTool OBDLink EX.

Please read thru this doc for the specific files affected.

Also, make sure you read the FORScan programming guide on their forum as firmware programming can be risky.

hate to ask dumb questions, but you said Uploading strategy file GB5T-14G374-CD,
but the docs says that is non nav, does this matter? I got the OBDLinkEX so I’d like to take a crack at it tomorrow. Thanks!

If you have the -AF file in the APIM you need to change it, regardless of nav.
