Update version 1.0 to 3.0

“About” says unit upgraded to 3.0 v20204. I don’t see any changes and nav symbol is still a four point star or plus sign. I used ford web site. Also lost voice commands now just “voice recognition not ready”

SYNC Region: NA

Navigation Variant: Nav

Manufacturer Year: Pre MY20

Install Type: OEM

Old SYNC Version: 1.0.19025

New SYNC Version: 3.0.20204

Do you have a error message, if so what is it?

Update Method: Official Ford

The version 1.0 build number I am not sure of.
I tried to update using usb and ford download. I attempted download but quit after 1.75 hours as I felt I had done something incorrectly.
Downloaded to usb again and attempted second time, quit after forty minutes. Third time powered up vehicle and unit said updating software before I inserted usb. After 45 minutes said update complete.
I don’t think update happened even though unit now says 3.0 20204.
Hoping to update for Apple CarPlay. Want to complete update before installing new hub.

2016 F150
It probably did update, since it indicates 3.0.20204. There is no real visual difference from the previous version for Sync 3.0. If you were looking to upgrade to Sync 3.4, the Ford upgrade will not do that…
Did you update the maps?
You will need to upgrade the USB hub for CP.

Any idea how to correct voice command?
Should nav symbol have changed with update?
All images I see of 3.0 have arrowhead symbol. I still have four pointed star.

I did not update maps.

There’s an edit button for a reason.
From now on, please stop posting consecutive messages.

The proper way to upgrade from Sync 3 V1.x is to upgrade to Sync 3 V2.3.x and then to Sync 3 V3.0.x. This is not explained on the Ford website, and they don’t even offer the files to do this anymore. The voice recognition issue is one of the results of skipping thru the versions. But you didn’t know this, that’s ok.

Since your APIM seems to have finished the upgrade to 3.0.20204, it could need a master reset. This is mandatory after any larger jump in software or firmware changes.

Even if you did this after the upgrade, do it again…then run the APIM Interrogator Utility and post the results here. You will use the GB5T-14G386-AA or GB5T-14G386-AB file mentioned in the tutorial.

Where did you get the upgrade files for this and who’s instructions di you use? It certainly made a mess out of your Sync system. Fortunately, it can all be fixed.

Other than the file failing to upload, don’t worry about that, what is the issue with your upgrade?

Earlier you mentioned I upgraded improperly by skipping a version. I don’t have voice command. I am hoping to be able to utilize car play after update. I know I need to upgrade module.
I just realized I’m not sure if you are asking me or other poster.

I have not moved forward with the CyanLabs upgrade yet, wanted to do a double check to make sure that my APIM HW had not been swapped out by a previous owner potentially risking a brick. When I bought the vehicle I updated the software from ver 1 to ver 3.20204 and now voice control will not work along with CP not working even with the HW update for the USB hub. After reading as much as I can it looks as though it is because the 2.x update was skipped and straight to 3.x… I am fine with the 3.x however, I would prefer CP to work of course. Right now I am planned to use CyanLabs to move from my current 3.20204 to Sync 3.3.19052. Is this the route you would suggest?

Thank you both…

@Toduf ,
You have a GJ5T-14G371-CFC unit which is original to the vehicle. (NAV equipped).
@garretorth ,
You also have a GJ5T-14G371-CFC unit which is original to the vehicle. (NAV equipped).

Both of these can be upgraded to Sync 3.3 or 3.4. Keep in mind this is older hardware not specifically designed for the new software, but these units will run the newer Sync versions without issue. They will not be as fast as the newer hardware, but there should be no issues other than having to adjust the asbuilt for the theme. This unfortunately is an issue specific to Navigators.

If you plan on staying with Sync 3.0.20204, i recommend you follow the tutorial and re-install everything as outlined.
If you plan on upgrading to Sync 3.3 (or 3.4) I recommend using the Syn3 Updater to do this, including NA 2.20 maps.

For you both I really recommend upgrading to Sync 3.3.19052 with NA 2.20 maps. The look and feel of 3.3.19052 is almost exactly like Sync 3.0 versions, but with better software and features. AA and CP should work fine without issues (except for those apps specific issues, which are not Sync issues) once the hubs are upgraded. I would say to go to Sync 3.4 but remember this is the first-generation Sync hardware in production, and I think Sync 3.3 is a better fit for these units. You can try going to Sync 3.4 and downgrade later to 3.3.19052 if you wish.

Did you mean 3.3 19052? Don’t see 19025.
Thanks for all your help.

Yes, sorry. 3.3.19052.

Long day…I corrected the post. Thanks.

Do you have a link for a thread or any additional information for updating the asbuilt to keep the theme correct? Thanks for all the help.
