Tutorial: Sync 3.0.20204 with 2022 EU 2.21 (F11) Map Installation

Tutorial: Sync 3.0.20204 with 2022 EU 2.21 (F11) Map Installation.

Read this document fully before starting any actions. It is your responsibility to follow the instructions as outlined below.

NOTES:
• This process does not use the reformat tool and is safe for MY20+ Service Replacement APIM’s.
• This tutorial is targeted for Ford and Lincoln vehicles originally equipped with a 64GB NAV APIM with Sync 3.0 and factory navigation. The maps are not compatible with Sync 2 and 3.2+ versions. DO NOT attempt to place maps on a NON-NAV Sync APIM.
• It is advised that you run the APIM Interrogator Utility to determine the specifics of your Sync unit installed in your vehicle. This can be done thru the Syn3 Updater in the Utility/Tools section or manually following the tutorial, Tutorial: APIM Interrogator Utility - CyanLabs.
• It is recommended using a USB 3.0 drive with at least 32 GB of storage.
• This installation consists of multiple reboots, in which the vehicle ignition must remain on throughout the process. DO NOT REMOVE THE USB UNTIL THE ENTIRE PROCESS HAS COMPLETED.
• A ‘Master Reset’ will be performed at the end of this procedure.

Overview

If you have updated your Sync 3.0 EU NAV APIM to Sync 3.0.20204 (or recent Sync 3.0 version) with new maps and you are experiencing hesitation and lag in the unit response, it is likely due to an incomplete or corrupted nav installation. This happens when the map installation is not performed correctly and leaves a mixture of old and newer files on the APIM. The old and new map files are not compatible and will cause the incomplete loading of the maps on boot, sometimes causing the APIM to constantly reboot. Specifically, this is an issue with the way the JR3T-14G421-BH map file is installed, due to the contents of the file being a package of two separate compressed files. This issue can be corrected using the procedures in this tutorial.

This tutorial covers the installation of Sync 3.0.20204 with the associated Sync Voice and Gracenote files and the installation of EU2.21 (F11) maps and nav voice files. These installations will be performed in two separate procedures, the Sync Apps installation and the EU2.21 (F11) Nav Package installation.

NOTE: It is required to perform the Sync Apps installation first, as the newer nav package is not compatible with some older Sync versions.

Sync Apps Package Installation

Sync Apps Package USB Preparation Instructions

  1. Download the required files. The files can be downloaded from the Software Database - CyanLabs.
    Sync App: JR3T-14G381-AX 407Mb Sync3 v3.0.20204 22.07.2020
    Sync System Voice: JR3T-14G391-AE 1.5Gb Sync3 v3.2.19056-Pre18.5
    Gracenote: JR3T-14G423-AB 711Mb Sync3 v3.0.17024 1.1.1.1127 (EU-0010) (23.08.2016)
NOTE: Gracenote is optional, but the entry in the autoinstall.lst file (Item3 and Open3) must be removed if Gracenote will not be installed.
  2. Format a 32GB USB for ExFAT/MBR using Windows. Place the files on the USB drive.
    a. Open the Downloads folder on the computer used to download the files.
    b. Select the files and transfer them to the USB under the SyncMyRide folder.
    c. In the root of the USB, place file DONTINDX.MSA. This is a blank text file with an MSA extension to prevent indexing by the Sync system. This can be used from previous installations if you have one. This file is optional.
  3. Create the autoinstall.lst file.
    a. In a plain text editor, like notepad, create a file named “autoinstall.lst”. Make sure there is not a .TXT extension, this must be a .LST extension.
    b. Copy and paste (as plain text) the following text into the autoinstall.lst file and save the file.
